A trendy Los Angeles County community has voted to reduce law enforcement funding despite escalating crime that was up 137% earlier in the year and public backlash.
The budget for the next two fiscal years will leave West Hollywood with up to five fewer Los Angeles County Sheriff's deputies on patrol. At the same time the council approved increasing funding for a cultural arts festival.
The budget was approved by a narrow 3-2 vote with Mayor Lauren Meister dissenting as well as Councilman John Erickson.
"Most of the residents and businesses I have heard from are opposed to cutting the Sheriff’s budget," Meister told Fox News in a statement.
"They are outraged that people and organizations from outside our city are dictating to Council how to run our city. The narrative that we can have 'either Sheriff's or social services,' or 'either Sheriff's or unarmed security teams' is false."
Over the past few months, residents and business owners have voiced opposition to cutting the police budget amid a crime wave across the county.
"Prioritizing peoples safety doesn't just mean people with badges and guns on the street," Councilmember Lindsey P. Horvath said during the meeting. "We have to find another way to keep our residents safe in a way that is affordable."
Mayor Pro Tem Sepi Shyne amended the budgets to re-allocate funds for sheriff's deputies to the Block by Block program, which staffs unarmed security ambassadors who provide the city with supplemental law enforcement services.

"Two deputies will be withdrawn in the fall and the program will be evaluated over six months. By then, the city's law enforcement presence could be reduced by three more. An entertainment policing team will be restored.

Their own bed, their funeral I guess...
If I only had a brain!
Gee I thought Californians loved crime! And were enjoying the crime wave!
No big problem. Next time West Hollywood calls in to report crime, just say the assigned LASD deputies are all occupied elsewhere and advise them to handle it themselves.
Suicidal
Do they not have PAID prosecutorial staff and PAID judges to...you know...actually uphold the law?
That cost is already budgeted.
Yet I would be willing to wager that every single one of the complainers vote Democrat, hate Trump, and took a knee every chance they got.
Will this “anger” change their voting habits” Will this anger make them vote the current crop out?
NO

See? No big deal. It all balances out in the end.
Homeowner: “Someone is breaking into my house. Quick, send help!”
911 operator: “All of our artists are out answering calls. But don’t worry. I’ll send a poet.”
The Backward People
Isn’t anything more enjoyable, than watching the woke hang themselves .
Come and get it!
They’re locked in to their failed philosophy. They have to double, triple down. Otherwise they will be exposed as the idiots that they are.
This type of crap almost makes me want to go there and break in and rob,and tie up the idiots who voted for this.
I could use some free shit.
I believe this is the faggot/drug addled area…
Monkeypox, violence, and drugs for everyone!…
I think that most people who do not pay attention to politics (Can you blame them) do not realize how dense commies and liberals really are. They can get shot, robbed, stabbed, raped, mugged, then turn around and blame it on the “man”. Eff ‘em
I’m happy about this... because I live over 2,000 miles away. Let the blue cities destroy themselves. I hope they have lots of abortions too.
“An entertainment policing team will be restored.”
WTH is an entertainment policing team and what exactly do they do?

Someone back around 2016 had stumbled across the pay-scale for regular police in some California city, and noting that more than half the force was making $100,000 a year on salary...retiring at almost $100k by age 55. It was the same story for firemen of the city.
Basically, whether designed that way or by accident...they have priced themselves out of protection. Wouldn’t surprise me if some of the park services crowd make $70,000 by age thirty (no degree).
Sheriff’s Deputies do all the evictions if I’m not mistaken. I think there’s some ‘voters’ out there more concerned with that...
