A Louisiana judge issued a temporary restraining order Monday against the state from enforcing its ban on abortions, leading to the immediate resumption of the procedure.
Orleans Parish Civil District Court Judge Robin Giarrusso granted the request of plaintiffs Hope Medical Group For Women and Medical Students for Choice.
The U.S. Supreme Court on Friday overturned Roe v. Wade, which for nearly 50 years had granted women the constitutional right to an abortion.
Providers in Louisiana had stopped performing abortions on Friday, unsure of the legality of the practice due to the vagueness of the bill, according to reproductive rights groups.
“Louisiana’s court made the right call today to swiftly block this unjust ban from taking effect," according to statement by Jenny Ma, senior staff attorney fo the Center for Reproductive Rights, which filed the lawsuit on behalf of the paintiffs.

For how long? It's like a hyena trying to mess with male lions. It don't usually go well for the hyena.
I don’t see a valid reason for a temporary hold.
States now have the right to block abortions, and this state
was not out of line with its actions.
The judge was.
I love how they interview people who want the ability to kill
the unborn, and not a single interview with someone defending
the unborn. (unless I missed it)
She……my bad
This judge is in violation of the Constitution as the Supreme Court has ruled that the question of abortion now resides with the individual states and the people.
There is no constitutional basis to stay restrain this legislation unless I’m not reading something in the ruling.
That being said, the judge issued a judgement in direct violation of the Constitution. Impeachment should be swift, removal within a day of the impeachment.
The SC ruled there is nothing in the US Constitution regarding abortion. The question is, are there any abortion rights in Louisiana’s (or any other states) constitution?
The coming recession will not impact lawyers. Shifty ones will always have enough to eat.
In the suit, which was also filed Monday, lawyers cite conflicting responses from elected officials, including Attorney General Jeff Landry, New Orleans City Council President Helena Moreno and New Orleans District Attorney Jason Williams, as evidence of the confusion surrounding the laws.
New Orleans judge orders state to press pause on enforcing abortion bans
Benjamin Clapper, Executive Director of Louisiana Right to Life, told LifeNews: “While these matters are still developing, Louisiana law is clear that babies will be protected from abortion when Roe v. Wade is overturned. We are confident that our courts, whether at the district, appellate, or state Supreme Court level, will affirm our laws in time.” “It is telling that the Shreveport abortion business filed a lawsuit in Orleans Parish, looking for a district judge who would side with abortion. We are thankful our Attorney General Jeff Landry will vigorously defend our pro-life laws. We look forward to these frivolous lawsuits being dismissed, and Louisiana will continue to work together to protect babies and support moms,” he added.
Louisiana Judge Blocks State Abortion Ban After Abortion Biz Sues Under State Constitution
I expect that the state AG will appeal the injunction. The judge blocking it, set a hearing for July 8th, which is 10-11 days away.
Huh ... I had to look. Billie Jean has not aged well. And the resemblance is strong.
Is that Jimmy Carter? I haven’t seen him in a while. Looks
a little different for some reason.
Evil sh t to the core, ugly inside and out.
What part of already adjudicated by the highest court in the land does she not understand?
Just for comparison, I also looked up pictures of Chris Evert (both now and then). Age has been much kinder to her.
I say “he”!
Naturally. 🙄
Billie Jean is not my lover.
She's just a girl who claims that I am the one.
But the kid is not my son.
On what grounds?
But no mention that I saw of what’s vague about the law.
Also, “I believe women who are survivors of rape or incest should be able determine whether to continue with a pregnancy that is the result of a criminal act,” Why is consensual incest included?
Hopefully this blatant power grab will be overturned by the time the sun goes down.
The judge who issued the restraint is a Democrat elected judge in Orleans Parish (same as county except in Louisiana). Orleans Parish is one of sixty-four parishes in Louisiana. I do not understand how her ruling has any legality except in Orleans Parish. It will be interesting to see how the Louisiana Republican Attorney General, Jeff Landry, attacks this ruling. Stay tuned for the next exciting episode.
It’s a state court so presumably the judge thinks there is something supporting them in state law or the state Constitution???
Planned Parenthood et al filed a lawsuit against the trigger law there, so the judge isn’t overruling the USSC, but preventing the trigger law based on the lawsuit.
She’s still a bitch though.
