A new course at Brown University has sparked controversy after it was offered solely to minority students.
The teacher training class in mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR) was recently made available only to students who identify as Black, Indigenous or Latino. Anyone who identifies as BIPOC, regardless .. if they are a student at Brown

The exclusion of white and Asian students raised the ire of one anonymous Brown student, who was turned away from the MBSR program because they don’t identify as BIPOC. In a May 13 complaint filed with the Foundation Against Intolerance & Racism (FAIR), a “civil rights and liberties organization,” the student stated that “Brown is offering a RACE-BASED teacher training program that is ONLY open to certain demographics (black, latino, indigenous).

Bion Bartning, the president and founder of FAIR, called Brown’s course “discriminatory.”
“In a misguided effort, perhaps, to remedy past injustices, Brown University has decided to discriminate against students solely on the basis of skin color and ethnic background,” Bartning said. “Such actions are neither legally, nor morally, justified and we urge the university to reconsider its decision.”

Following the complaint, FAIR attorney Leigh Ann O’Neill sent a strongly worded letter to Brown University’s president, Christina Hull Paxson, on June 15, accusing the university of violating Title VI of the 1964 Civil Rights Act, which states, “No person in the United States shall, on the ground of race, color, or national origin, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance.”

Brown has since changed its policy to allow all students, not just minority students, to enroll in the class when it resumes in August.

We really need to start some real universities that have real courses with real standards. (And standards are inversely proportional to the number of studies majors and diversity admin toads croaking in the sidelines.)

how is this different from high school where the “stupid” kids got sent for “home economics” while everyone else went to Trigonometry class?
Stupid, racist leftists once again are setting apart minorities who must be helped because of their supposed innate failure and lack of ability.
I would be proud I didn’t qualify for such a course.
So, Brown finally recognized they could become the target of massive racial and ethnic discrimination lawsuits that could make it all the way up to a USSC who would set them straight.....

Mindfulness is a part of one of the eastern religions. One of the side effects is uncontrollable shouting. The Veterans Administration tries to use this for PTSD

Brown University was founded by, and named after, a man who made his fortune trading slaves in Providence, R.I.

Well, okay. But that’s not near good enough. The racists who set the original policy must be identified and punished.
