Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Thursday intensified his criticism of Israel's refusal to sanction Russia, during an address by the Jewish leader to the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.
Bennett has refrained from criticising Russia's invasion and stressed Israel's close ties with Moscow and Kyiv while his administration has not imposed sanctions on Russian President Vladimir Putin's government.
Zelensky, who has family in Israel and visited the country several times, told Hebrew University in a video address that he has struggled to understand the Jewish state's soft approach towards Russia.
Israel's government and major rescue organisations have sent humanitarian and medical aid to Ukraine, but arms supplies have remained off the table.
"Why we have this miscommunication, misunderstanding with representatives of the government, I don't know."
Israel has so far walked a cautious diplomatic line on the Ukraine conflict in part to preserve Russian cooperation in Syria, where Israel regularly conducts air strikes with tacit acceptance from Moscow, which has forces in the country.

Israel is nothing if not survival oriented. Can’t sat the same for Zelensky or his supporters.

Zelensky describes his relatives in Israel as “an aunt of my mother, and her relatives”. They emigrated to Israel in the ‘90s.
Z visited Israel a number of times, doing his comedy act and lining up investment and technical media help for his entertainment company.
There is no indication that he sought Israeli citizenship. In fact, he won’t comment on whether he has converted to Christianity. His wife and children are practicing Christians.

I don't know, but he's ethnically Jewish, so Israeli citizenship is his for the asking.

The politics of the (Syrian, Turkish, Iranian, Russian, Iraqi, USA, Lebanese, Kurdish)/Israeli war is an astonishing minefield to thread your way through. Israel has worked a deal where they regularly are allowed by Russia to attack Russia’s ally Iran when it tries to arm the Lebanese or anybody else. Russia has not, apparently been helping their “ally” Iran design nuclear weapons. Condemning Russia could have potentially devastating effects on Israel. I think the Israelis are wisely looking the other way until Ukraine and Russia sort themselves out.

Zelensky really needs to stop. Other nations have their own foreign policy concerns and can’t cater to his whims.
It is rarely mentioned but it is the elephant in the room. I am certain that Putin has considerable support, sympathy in Israel.
I am not even Jewish in any percentage, but I have read a few things since my teens back in the 1970s.
