"Ripping off California consumers": Assembly committee to investigate oil companies
CBS Los Angeles ^ | June 21, 2022 | Darlene Powells

Gas prices in California are starting to creep down — but they still remain the highest in the nation, and state lawmakers want to know why.

Assembly Speaker Anthony Rendon, D-Lakewood, announced the formation of a non-partisan committee to investigate rising gas prices in California, to be chaired by Assemblywoman Jacqui Irwin, D-Thousand Oaks. The committee's first hearing is expected to happen by the end of the month.

These Leftist politicians are so predictable. When I lived in California, everytime there was a spike in gas prices the Democrats running the state would "investigate" the oil companies. As one would expect, the "investigation" would result in nothing. The Democrats never investigated how their own policies have resulted in California's having the honor of paying the highest gas prices in the lower 48.

California has higher state gas taxes than just about every other state. The base tax is about 51 cents per gallon.

There’s also a hidden fluctuating global warming tax attached to gas. It is about 25 cents per gallon, but does fluctuate.

There’s also sales tax. The state charges sales tax on gasoline. I believe the rate is lower than the base state sales tax on retail sales. But still adds about 15 to 20 cents per gallon.

Just off the top of my head, noted here, close to a dollar a gallon of gas is just state taxes in California. These right there help account for the majority of the difference between gas in California and gas in other states.

There are some other issues too, such as California requiring a different blend of refined gas, which is apparently more costly to produce. That cost gets passed along to us as well.

California has its own gasoline blend. Only refineries in CA produce this gas. California has cut itself from the national and international gasoline market.

Ok oil companies, let them get to the bottom of this “fraud” ! In the meantime, shut down all product deliveries to California until the problem is resolved.

They should look into the California state government, which has been ripping off people for decades. They forcibly extract high taxes, and what do they get for those taxes? Fresh water dumped into the oceans; preventable wildfires; blackouts; crime, and needles and feces in the street; interminable regulations; violated rights, including defensive rights; bennies for illegals; multibillion-dollar boondoggles; and, of course, high gas prices. Are you sure it’s the oil companies that are the main concern in ripping people off?

100% agree. These are morons and vile commies in Sacramento. If CARB (California Air Resource Board) backed off with their silly blending requirements and if these fools backed off with some of their fees and excise taxes per gallon, we’d be in the $4 range with the rest of the country. Instead they want to stick it to the oil companies for “greed”. Incredible.

...[gas prices in CA] still remain the highest in the nation, state lawmakers want to know why.

It's not rocket science, you idiots. Your mail-order President has killed the XL Pipeline, severely restricted federal leases for oil exploration, and dragged out the permitting process to the point where oil companies can't move the oil from the fields to the refineries. On top of that, you clowns in CA let local gov'ts have a say in the "mix" used to refine distillate fuels in the state, resulting (at my last count) 32 different "grades" of fuel, none of which is enough to satisfy demand.

Now, the worst thing you could possibly do is take money away from the very firms who find, transport, and refine fuel and give it to a bunch of bureaucrats who want to spend it on free stuff for illegals. The best thing you can do to help the people of CA is sit in your office and do nothing.

This is using the legislature to push the BS narrative that is is the oil companies fault when of course it was Biden and the rest of the rats crippling the energy producers. Typical. Cause the problem and then use the victim as the scapegoat.

No fraud cost of oil and operating and delivery costs (oil pipe lines are closed have to use trucks and trains).
Out on a barrel of oil if it’s Brent crude you might get 13 gallons of gasoline from it of it’s poor grad of oil you might 10 or less gallons of gasoline from it.
Yes oil companies make big money but many times they lose billions more than once its part of doing business.

“Gas prices in California are starting to creep down — but they still remain the highest in the nation, and state lawmakers want to know why.”

Making the case that some people are too stupid to live.

But we know that they know why. And they know we know they know. I’m pretty sure the mask is still on and the lies continue because they know they have not yet achieved absolute power. Once they do they will become like the regime in charge in Venezuela.

California is the enemy of oil.

Oil should simply cease selling product in California

Californicated morons.

If they want to investigate the true cause, investigate Biden, his policies, and his far-left greenie-weenie cohorts.

Why have an investigation?

The final report has already been written sitting around
waiting for an opening.

“...shut down all product deliveries to California until the problem is resolved.”

Wouldn’t work; only CA refiners can produce CA-specific gasoline blends. No out-of-state refineries are permitted to do so and ship into CA.
