RE: United Airlines chief executive Scott Kirby blames the pilot shortage not on pay and benefits but on the time and expense involved in training.

Here's the question : Why is that problem suddenly surfacing now? Are they telling us that there were enough trained pilots before 2022 and then these trained pilots suddenly retired?

Sub-airlines using low 20’s pilots in small planes.

Risky.

Better to drive to a regional hub.

New hires are paying for their own training themselves? In a pilot shortage?

Does anyone have an estimate of how many pilots were fired because they refused the jab?

Was that a significant contributor to the pilot shortage?

“At United, we’re convinced that the root of the problem is that it costs over $100,000 and takes five or more years to obtain all the training to become eligible to fly for a major airline,”

5 years? What about the Horizon Air ground service agent with no piloting experience stealing a Horizon Air Turbo Prop, 75 passenger aircraft. This guy took off and was doing barrel rolls and insane maneuvers and also showed he could handle the aircraft in flight. Edge of the seat stuff.

Yet it takes 5 years and 100K for training? lol..

The airport in Detroit is an easy drive for much of Toledo and offers a huge flight choice advantage. We’ve flown up there to visit relatives and Toledo just isn’t a choice, even before this.
