VP Harris botches Juneteenth history lesson about ‘400 years of slavery’
NY Post ^ | 06/20/2022 | Steven Nelson

Vice President Kamala Harris bungled a history lesson about the Juneteenth holiday Monday, telling kids that black people were enslaved in America for 400 years — overstating the actual time period by more than 150 years.

“I think that we all know today is a day to celebrate the principle of freedom,” Harris told a group of about two dozen elementary school-aged children at the National Museum of African American History & Culture in Washington. “And think about it in terms of the context of history, knowing that black people in America were not free for 400 years of slavery.”

“Let this be a day that is a day to celebrate the principle of freedom, but to speak about it honestly and accurately, both in the context of history and current application,” Harris went on during her apparently extemporaneous remarks.

The first African slaves in what became the American colonies arrived in 1619 in Virginia. Slavery was abolished through the 13th Amendment, which was ratified in 1865 — ending 246 years of the practice, not 400.

A White House official acknowledged Harris’ error, telling The Post that “the vice president was referring to 400 years since slavery began.”

So now today is a national holiday? Does that explain why I had no mail delivery and no garbage pick up?

Juneteenth = no garbage day........Works for me.

I think school kids are taught Obama finally ended slavery during his first term. But all whites continue to be guilty due to systemic racism which they cannot deny or end.

If Ilhan Omar would climb off her brother, and/or AOC long enough to research her family tree, methinks we could possibly get to the bottom of this. ;)

Slavery in America started with the Native Americans who enslaved other tribe members.

The only honorable thing to do is to return the descendants of these oppressed people back to where they came from.

Home at last, great God-a-mighty home at last.

Well, she’d be technically more correct, or at least closer to the real number.

Slavery has been used for millenia. The ancient Egyptians used slaves to build the pyramids. To say that America is the only nation to have ever existed with slave labor is to ignore the grand majority of human history.

I’m so tired of the ignorance of history by so much of American society.

I like how the White Hospice official correction was even more crazy wrong that Karamela's original agitpropaganda.

HeelsUP has lost so much staff on the Great Resignation that they either had to get Felicia Sonmez out of the CraPo unemployment line, or go hardcore and get Nina Jankowicz for 10 cents-a-word.

Slavery in America started with the Native Americans who enslaved other tribe members.

And still have not paid reparations to the Bering region pedestrians from China and Eastern Russia who were the earlier dwellers in Canada and the US lands.

National Park Service search result: As of 2008, genetic findings suggest that a single population of modern humans migrated from southern Siberia toward the land mass known as the Bering Land Bridge as early as 30,000 years ago, and crossed over to the Americas by 16,500 years ago.

Maybe she’s referring to how long her own family ancestors owned slaves.

If blacks are still slaves in America then why is she the VP?

If America is so racist then why was Barack HomObama president for eight years (and still running the country through Puppet Biden)?

America is sooooooo racist that you got slaves from every country in Africa risking their lives to get here illegally.

If slavery ended in 1865 after 400 years, 1465 must have been when Indians began enslaving other Indians.

(I know--it was probably going on much longer, probably for thousands of years.)

VP Harris botches Juneteenth history lesson about ‘400 years of slavery’

Is she still VICE President? I definitely thought she'd be President by now. Gotta hand it to the Dems, they fooled me on that one because I thought the Dems would only be able to play the "Weekend at Biden's" game for 3-6 months before throwing in the towel, resulting in senile Sleepy Joe's fast resignation. Those Dems sure are sly.

It's funny how senile Sleepy Joe's handlers keep forcing him to demonstrate various "Feats of Strength" to fool the public into thinking he's a "young 79 years old."

Examples: Making senile Sleepy Joe run up the Air Force One steps, causing him to twice fall flat on his face in a matter of seconds. Then his handlers make him ride a bike and he actually tips over while at a standstill. Of course, both moronic stunts show senile Sleepy Joe to be even more feeble than everyone already assumed. All the Dems' tactics always backfire on them. Except their 2020 Stolen Election - which actually backfired on the entire nation. Making the U.S. the world's laughingstock: "You mean you American Democrats & RINOs stole the U.S. election for that senile Sleepy guy? HAHAHAHA!!! ..." (Nice job, you genius Democrats/RINOs.)

Okay. Thanks. But slavery was prevalent in that era. Or do you have articles to debunk that too? Asking for a friend.
