After Rep. Tom Rice became the first electoral victim of Donald Trump's revenge campaign against the Republicans who voted to impeach him, a GOP colleague who had also backed the former President's impeachment reached out to the South Carolina lawmaker and attempted to console him.
"I told him afterward, I said, 'So much for the adage that members of Congress are more concerned about their next election than their job here,'" retiring Rep. Fred Upton of Michigan recalled telling Rice, in a nod to the fact that his impeachment vote is likely what cost him in last week's Republican primary for South Carolina's 7th Congressional District.
While Upton's comments were meant to lift Rice's spirits, they also serve as a reality check for the House's remaining pro-impeachment Republicans fighting for survival in competitive primaries: supporting Trump's impeachment -- and continuing to forcefully and publicly rebuke the former President, like Rice did -- is politically perilous in today's GOP.
"You impeach the Ultra MAGA king, you get the boot," said firebrand Republican Rep. Lauren Boebert of Colorado, a Trump ally and vocal supporter of the attempts to overturn the 2020 election.
The so-called impeachment 10 -- who still keep in touch through a group chat and have offered each other advice and comfort amid a barrage of attacks from Trump and his allies -- are wrestling with their own political survivals after watching their numbers dwindle. At least half of them won't return to Congress next year, with Rice losing his primary to a Trump-backed challenger and four of them opting to retire instead of duke it out, although some of those decisions were influenced by redistricting.

Pretty good piece of journalism here. The author seems to get the main point. Republicans who back Democrat power moves are liable to get whacked at the ballot box.

“cross Trump”: Rice and the rest of this group of boneheads didn’t “cross” Trump, they backed Democrats and impeached the President. If you vote against a Trump congressional bill you have “crossed” him. If you back the opposing party’s aggressive manipulation of the government you will find more voter outrage.
These coup plotters think their retirement will just be the end of it. They are wrong. Their hell is only just beginning.

Looking at what they are doing they hope to indict Trump again with some trumped up charge but that isn't going to work. The best they can hope for is to wear down Republicans to say Trump isn't worth it, lets settle for someone else. I can think of several possibles with Desantis topping the list. But Trump, IMHO, will stay popular for the next 3 years.
Look at the money and time, and effort they are investing trying to blackball Trump and he is a shoe in as of now.
I'm looking at an attempted assassination, or an all out war if he wins. This is why the second amendment is so important now. Does anyone believe these assholes would not send the military against the people to keep Trump out? We may only have a few years left at the most for our Republic to remain free for the people. Is it worth it to have Desantis or Cruz as POTUS to save the bloodshed that seems to be inevitable now? Trump was robbed and America will not forget and just sweep it under the rug,.....IMO. I could be wrong. Why is no one speaking about 2000 Mules? They cannot even allow the slightest possibility of people seeing the proof of a stolen election. Either way this turns out, we are at an absolute turning point in this country.
There is a possibility that the Republican party will die and the MAGA party will take over if MAGA people don't win the primaries.
Like I said before, There are too many people that believe Trump was robbed.
