Tennessee’s Republican Secretary of State was arrested on Friday night on suspicion of driving while intoxicated after leaving a music festival.
On Friday night after leaving the Bonnaroo Music Festival, I was stopped by the Tullahoma Police Department and subsequently arrested for DUI," Tennessee Secretary of State Tre Hargett said in a statement. "Driving Under the Influence is a serious matter, and I regret the circumstances that led to my arrest. I respect law enforcement and will trust the legal process as we move forward."
Hargett was booked into the Coffee County Jail shortly after midnight Saturday and released a few hours later, according to jail records.

For some reason, I have a hunch that half the good people who were leaving the Bonnaroo Music Festival had tucked in a tad too much.

I have a Class A CDL and a government security clearance. One DUI in my world, you are fired. I think this guy deserves the same.
Should have called a ride.

Yup, no excuse for that at all these days. Maybe there was a sliver of an excuse when you had to hope a cab would come to you and you didn’t have a phone on you, but not any more.
I’d say the local Republican Party, if the blood alcohol tests confirm it, should publicly ‘encourage’ this guy to leave and not come back.

Well liberals are putting into the state, filling up Nashville, Chattanooga, Knoxville and other places.
Like other states, soon the statewide positions will be Democrat.

Not helped when ‘our side’ decides to do something stupid like drink and drive these days.

Is this guy in charge of Tennessee's roads? I'm in and out of Tennessee (Nashville and west of it) moderately often, including today. The roads in TN are lousy. The worst potholes seem to have been patched since winter, but, we were back and forth from lowly Western KY to NW Tennessee several times today, and the state and US highways in KY were MUCH better. Much smoother. The TN roads all looked and felt about 2-3 years past really needing to be resurfaced.
Aside from that: I can't miss the irony of, well, anybody being booked for DUI in COFFEE county.

For 140 years from the 1870s until 2009/14, all these statewide positions were held by Demonrats uninterrupted. We’ll be holding onto them for a long time to come, thank you.

Nope. The Dems can and will use DUI convictions against the entire party in a local area - to good effect.

This will have little to zero impact as the TN Demonrat party is effectively dead. He is elected by the legislature and has served in this role for 13 years. He might resign or retire, but again, this will have little impact. We’re grown-ups in this state and realize people can make a dumb mistake and still carry on.
