Geoff Shepard, former deputy White House counsel for Nixon, has written three fabulous books that should forever change Americans’ views about Watergate — The Secret Plot to Make Ted Kennedy President (2008), The Real Watergate Scandal (2015), and The Nixon Conspiracy (2021). ...
Shepard has also written a series of important articles on Watergate for The American Spectator. Shepard’s work has solidly built on the foundations laid by James Hougan’s Secret Agenda (1984) and Len Colodny’s and Robert Gettlin’s Silent Coup: The Removal of a President (1991). Shepard’s work shatters the conventional Woodward–Bernstein “history” of Watergate peddled by the mainstream media and other Nixon haters. But long before Shepard’s work appeared, the great British historian Paul Johnson exposed the myths of Watergate in his 1997 book A History of the American People.
Indeed, Johnson started to undermine the conventional view of Watergate in his 1983 book Modern Times, where he described Nixon’s resignation as a “media putsch” engineered by Nixon’s media foes and ideological opponents who never forgave him for outing Alger Hiss as a Soviet spy in the late 1940s. Johnson in A History of the American People provided more detail and greater perspective on the real Watergate story.
Johnson described the Watergate “hysteria” in which “all reason, balance, and consideration of the national interest was abandoned” by a Democratic Party and media that wanted Nixon’s scalp.
… “The aim,” Johnson wrote, “was to use the power of the press and TV to reverse the electoral verdict of 1972, which was felt to be, in some metaphorical sense, illegitimate.” Some in the media started referring to the “Nixon regime,” as if Nixon’s 49-state electoral victory was somehow anti-democratic.

Watergate was a Media coup.
Loved silent Coup
Whatever happened to that ho Mo?
“Some in the media started referring to the “Nixon regime,” as if Nixon’s 49-state electoral victory was somehow anti-democratic. “
I remember the press kept referring to the Nixon Administration as “the Imperial Presidency.”
What is going now is an attempt to do the same to trump.
You have to hand it to the commies...they do stick together!
I’m glad you posted this information.
Shepard is one of the best sources for learning about the “take down” of President Nixon.
The Washington DC bureaucracies have to eventually be changed with a more political balanced workforce or de-funded completely.
At this point in our history they’re worse than any foreign power at destroying & dividing the country.
It was Barry Goldwater and other Senate Republicans who dropped their support of President Nixon and their actions forced him to resign.
Roger Stone exposes John Dean.

The media was definitely corrupt even back then, but Nixon was a guaranteed income, welfare spewing rat. It was the coverup that got him and not the crime.
“Nixon shouldn’t have resigned. Democrats controlled the House, so he certainly would have been impeached, but they only had 54 senators. 13 Republican senators would have necessary to convict. Nixon was no worse than the usual inhabitants of the White House.”
A bunch of those Republican Senators would’ve thrown Nixon to the wolves.
Goldwater and some others informed Nixon of the this and he resigned the Presidency shortly after.
If a conservative media had existed in those days, Nixon would’ve survived easily, but he did’t have a Rush or a Carlson in 1974.
Watergate was a short lived victory for the democrats.
Seven years later.....President Reagan was in the White House.
I’m no fan of Erik Erickson but he talked about this one afternoon. He was saying that it all started with an FBI agent that knew about the whole watergate Hotel thing, had been passed over for a promotion and decided to drop dime on the whole thing to get back at everyone.
and that’s what separates them from the Right.
The Right can’t stay together if it meant their lives.
CBS ran a two-hour special tonight— “Watergate: High Crimes in the White House.”
The purpose was to portray Republicans as threats to democracy then and now. Clearly implied was that Trump is a threat as dastardly as Nixon ever was. Woodward and Bernstein appeared, of course. They’ve lived off this thing for decades.
All of this is propaganda for the upcoming elections and to distract people from the real issues—that Biden and his cronies are a disaster. That the country is almost on its knees because of their policies as they smash a wrecking ball at everything the U.S stands for.
Donald Trump at the Faith and Freedom conference had an excellent point when he was attacking the gender stuff being foisted on elementary students by teachers and school administrators. He said, “you wouldn’t want these people babysitting your kids for 30 minutes; why should they be in charge of your children for six hours a day?” Enormous applause from his audience.
Certainly no less “Imperial” than LBJ’s.

Former FBI deputy director William Mark Felt broke his 30-year silence and confirmed in 2005 that he was “Deep Throat,” the anonymous government source who helped take down President Nixon in the Watergate scandal.
‘Deep Throat’ was No. 2 at the FBI.
At the time of the break-in, Felt was second-in-command at the FBI and in charge of day-to-day operations. He was essentially point man for the FBI investigation into the crime.
The FBI hasn’t changed at all over the years. Still the fascist=minded organization created by J Edgar.
