Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis raised eyebrows on Wednesday when he referred to Elon Musk as an African American, thanking him for his support for the Republican Party.
Musk had tweeted that he had voted for a GOP candidate for the first time (Mayra Flores in South Texas) and added that he predicts a “massive red wave in 2022.” He said that he was unsure who his pick for president in 2024 would be but that he was leaning towards DeSantis, who is rumoured to be considering a presidential run.
In response to that, DeSantis told reporters: “I’m focused on 2022… But with Elon Musk, what I would say is, I welcome support from African Americans, what can I say?”

Perhaps the phrase "let it go" was imprecise. I mean, stop talking about it publicly.
The fix for the election resides in state hands, not the federal gov't. Trump needs to be working the phones and talking to GOP leaders at the state level to get it done.
Trump doesn't need to be out front on this. He sounds like he is whining at this point. He should be talking energy, immigration and the economy without saying a word in public about the elections. If asked, he should say it is a state matter and he trusts states will fix the system so there is integrity.
Get it?
I guess that means I'm a North American-American.
Totally agree.. Look forward, not back. Or lose.
You mean the way Trump cleaned house in his first term?
Yeah, there was not a lot of swamp draining going on under Trump. He was great for the economy, the border and energy, but he sucked for spending, Covid (went along with everything) and never cleaned out the FBI or DOJ or CIA as he should have.
After endorsing the biggest politician, McCarthy, for Speaker, I have no faith Trump will do any better with another term. He would be great for the economy, energy and the border, but I am not fooled into thinking he would drain the swamp.
Don’t forget Elon’s a very happy guy.... almost gay......(old school definition)
“DeSantis has been a great governor so far, he hasn’t proven himself as president.”
Just wondering how he would prove himself as president when he isn’t president yet. Did you have coffee this morning?
I am 100% in agreement. We need both types. There are many who feel the need to tear down Trump because they want to build up DeSantis, and I think that is extremely short-sighted.
If DeSantis is “less mean” or “more diplomatic” but still very conservative, we need people in that role: real conservatives who can talk, and who can attempt to reach out to the rare Democrats who can be talked to.
If Trump is a wrecking ball, we sorely need someone like him, and he is indispensable in that role. We MUST have someone like Trump in place at this point in time, because there are a huge amount of people on the Left who will be impervious, immune, and downright hostile to the likes of DeSantis. We need someone like Trump who is going to call them out in the crudest, meanest, most public way, and have not a whit of care if he damages his own image or political capital in the process of doing political damage to them, which is imperative to execute if we are to have any chance of saving this Republic.
Portugal is not Hispanic. Iberia is not African.
If you can trace back to some Moorish ancestor, then sure you have a bit of African ancestry, but you yourself are not African-whatever.
She was born in Portuguese Mozambique while it was still a colony. That is Africa, no matter who controls it.
To troll leftists I imagine
“Just wondering how he would prove himself as president when he isn’t president yet.”
Haven’t had my coffee, actually a little mad about it. Working too hard. Anyways, my words are not untrue. He hasn’t proven himself as president and yes he couldn’t, but that does not make my statement an untruth. I did say I think he will be a good president (hopefully great someday). I’m from Florida and proud of what he has done.
My family immigrated from Italy to the US via Argentina for one generation. I have often thought about screwing with the US census by identifying as a Latino American. LOL.
In a Bible study my wife and I attended, we had a white couple from South Africa that had become naturalized and a black couple originally from Oklahoma. In a discussion with the black couple over dinner one night I made the comment that the only African Americans I know were the white couple from SA. They looked perplexed, thought about it for a minute, and then laughed hysterically once they got it. I then explained them how absurd it really was to subdivide our nationality by race. In the end, they agreed with me that we should all just be American and that such labels really only serve to divide us. But then a few months later they still went ahead and voted for Obama because, you know, history.
I do not disagree with you. I am not trying to tear Trump down, but point out that he is not the only arrow in our quiver.
To many conservative black citizens, Obama still represents something special.....the first black POTUS. Yes, he is from the wrong political party, but he has that title, regardless.
Kennedy was special to Catholics for the same reason, even if you disagreed with his politics.
We need to understand these things because it bridges the gap with black citizens and allows us to have a conversation that may lead to conversion.
We need determined leaders with convictions who are willing to fight for them — and us.
The GOP is very uncomfortable with strong leaders like Trump and DeSantis but that’s exactly what it takes to win the political war we are in.
Ah yes, that’s different. That would be Portuguese / African.
Yeah, but the Musks weren’t Afrikaans. They were British South Africans and not so much into apartheid.
Because Musk is an African American.
