Thomas Sowell observed something like that, and this is undoubtedly a good example of that. It won’t work, it can’t work, everyone already knows that. It’s a manifestation of how well meaning though misguided people will make a situation far worse by insisting on ineffective measures because they wish things would respond to a fairy tale perception on how the world works. If the deleterious effects of a stupid idea only fell on the adherents it would be maybe acceptable, but they’ve made a big schitt sandwich, and we all gotta take a bite.
Sowell also said something like “We are invaded by barbarians every generation. They are called children. They need to become educated and civilized” etc.
What will their answers be when this scheme fails? Will there be mea culpas all around?
