In the first quarter of 2022, the number of Russians living below the poverty line increased by 69%. This follows from the publication of Rosstat.
According to Rosstat estimates, in the first quarter of 2022, the population with incomes below the poverty line was 20.9 million people. At the same time, at the end of 2021, the department reported 12.4 million Russians below the poverty line. Thus, over the three months of 2022, the number of poor people in Russia increased by 8.5 million, or 68.5%. In the first quarter of 2022, Rosstat proceeded from the bar of 12,916 rubles - the minimum income sufficient to live in Russia, according to the agency.
Compared to the fourth quarter of 2021, the average income of Russians decreased from 47,694 rubles to 36,234 rubles, a drop of 24%. At the same time, the average salary decreased from 62,828 rubles to 60,101 rubles, or by 4.3%. The number of employed people decreased by 800 thousand people.
The volume of social payments in the first quarter of 2022 decreased by 19.4% compared to the previous one. At the same time, the share of income from entrepreneurial and other production activities in the overall structure of income increased by 0.7%.
Rosstat has been estimating the number of people with cash incomes below the established poverty line since 1992. In 2021, the methodology for calculating the poverty line was changed. Now it corresponds to the cost of the consumer basket in the fourth quarter of 2020, adjusted for inflation.

Biden and Putin seem to be running "neck and neck" in the accomplishments department. Excepting the sanctions have elevated the Biden-declared "rubble" of the ruble and oil sales there while here....

Russia will be a vassal of either the EU or the Chicoms. Probably both. 30 years after the Cold War and its economy is only the size of a large US state due to corruption. Look at its army falling apart in Ukraine: wheels falling off expensive hardware, flag ship cruiser sunk by enemy with no navy, etc. This is not a healthy society.
I will agree that Russia is not healthy. Corruption can rot a country.
But I still hold that you better hope that Russia turns around, and that China does not take it over. China, while relatively healthy, is ... well, just evil.
The former Soviet Union was evil, inasmuch as they were attempting to impose an unnatural system on its populace (and others) and for being insanely autocratic. Still, they (and the followup Russia) have some good traits: A strong sense of family, and an appreciation (actually a reverence) for the arts.
China is insanely autocratic with much less reverence for the arts and a much diminished sense of the family. It is Russia without any of the good parts.
You DO NOT want China taking Russia over. Trust me.
