“US legally as a resident”

Why would that make him a mercenary?

These three went into The Ukraine to fight as foreigners within that country. THEY WERE NOT LEGAL CITIZENS.

The mistake here is that Russia wanted to capture these to make a point. They did, and now they either have to make the point or back off.
The mistake? They should have taken them right out, after they captured them, and shot them right then and there.

Remember when we captured the real brave smart little bastards in Afghanistan at the very beginning of that conflict? What should have been done to those little assholes?

Maybe he shouldn’t have been in Iraq in the first place.

Power abhors a vacuum.

The Bidet puppeteers created one—Putin would have been a fool if he failed to fill it.

This does not bode well for Brittany Griner, either.

Brittany may be a great test case on what measures are necessary to cure wokeness—the Russians are tuning up the labs...

Science, yo.

We have plenty of gloating stooges here who laugh at the death and destruction in Ukraine directly caused by the ridiculous interventionist, empire-building schemes of neocons in Washington DC.

They gloat with Vlad, same as Vlad's TV kiss-ass stooges. Vlad is Tsar Stoopid The First. The Tsar's of old would have sent such a commoner weakling to Crimea to be killed by the British. Vlad would have been cannon fodder.

These guys were out doing something real.

Yeah...they were out committing war crimes against civilians, for which they'll pay with their lives.

Nah. Putin’s played the long game here and it’s now beginning to bear fruit.

Screw this nonsense about Biden, he’s the fourth president out of the last five to do absolutely nothing to bring Russia in from the cold - so all we’ve really done us give Putin years to build alliances, develop hypersonic weaponry, and plan the Soviet reboot.

He didn’t even need to go all in with Donbas; by using the DPR/LPR with Wagner and holidaying irregulars to drag the conflict out he was able to nudge it enough to create a motive for the Special Military Operation.

As Russian TV points out (usually while laughing), it’s not as if Putin hasn’t been signposting this roadmap for the better part of 20 years and Zhirinovsky was signposting it before that.

"I suppose that kid was a mercenary too."

To Democrats, the military are mercenaries.

When I can home from SE Asia, we were smuggled into the country at 5 AM, all 900 of us, flown into Travis on the Freedom Bird, bussed across to KSFO, where there were flights to everywhere in the country, all leaving before 7 AM. All that has been conveniently MemoryHoled.

Thanks for your service, jonas.

All 3 of my Platoon Sergeants, and one of my First Sergeants, did tours in Nam. Their guidance to me was invaluable.

I remember one training exercise that went poorly. I was angry at the outcome, until my PSG pulled me aside and told me, "Remember this, they all came back alive." I credit him with getting me out of the battery, shortly after he was moved up to Battalion HQ.

Had he not done that, I would have been out of the Army (voluntarily...lol) after my 4 year active duty obligation was up. Instead, it turned into two more years in Germany, and some of the best experiences of my life.

Don't worry, I know my stories are interesting only to me!

If the two are Brits that are by definition mercenaries. They are being paid to be members of the Ukraine army.

What’s more, they may actually be MI-6 operatives inserted to gain on the spot intelligence

Apples and oranges. A Mexican in the US military, going through the process of becoming a US citizen isn’t the same as foreigners going to Ukraine for the explicit purpose of engaging in war against Russia.

You are correct.
They all had Ukrainian citizenship, from well before the war. too.
One is married to a Ukrainian woman, another engaged.
That aside, some, here, seem to think that’s bad that the invaded country uses foreign fighters, but it’s okay for the invading force to use them.
Foreign fighters have fought in other’s wars, throughout history, including our Revolution.
General Lafayette.

Talk about bias in writing!

Our “propaganda” should lay off it a bit. Their icing is a bit thick on the BS cake they are serving up.

We should have never caused this war. We started this war.

There is ***NO*** excuse for what we did.

Even in Iraq we had some argument on our side, and in Afghanistan harboring OBL we were 100% justified going after someone that just murdered 2,800 citizens... But this Ukraine war was/is entirely bullshit.

Motivated by greed.

Lying and breaking various treaties and/or agreements.

Putting Russia into a security position/situation we would not accept if it were us and where you can legitimately argue this is very bad for them.

We gambled with the lives of 41,000,000 people that had it fairly good in Ukraine. Ukraine was not in a bad position economically, they were basically sovereign, had a special deal worked out with the EU, and were able to conduct trade with whomever they wanted, moving people, goods, services, money, allowing western NGOs, political leaders etc in... Why wasn't good, good enough?

Why was it so damn important to push for NATO expansion Eastward and force this issue, which we (((KNEW))) was a nonstarter for the Russians? Because Western multinational corporations, the big banks, and other folks with financial interests wanted the stability and security assurances created through EU and NATO membership. The economic interests wanted to have the NATO underwriter but that would put NATO forces on Russia's border, which is a huge issue for them.

It is Russia today that has legitimate security concern and a “self preservation/defense” argument, not us. We are expeditionary, expansionist and economically motivated: morally bankrupt on this one.

This war should be a huge black eye for Biden, another F-up, another failure. However, with a media that is always on his side, Republicans that failed to call him out on it (Russia is the bad guy and you have to support the DoD always, even if it's wrong), the Euros behind this war 100% because they want Ukraine in the EU and NATO, he will get away with this huge mess he caused unscathed. It is a mess. It is a failure. There will be consequences for us (we will pay). ***It was all unnecessary!*** But in today's world failure or success, good and evil, are all just about how things are spun and "perceived." This was a colossal exercise of stupidity, where an administration pushed by economic interests, increased the ante by arming Ukraine and making promises to them, hoping that the cost would be to high for Russia to actually go for it.

As to the mercenaries. In all of these conflicts Western governments monitor peoples movements and those that go places to fight. We were killing folks that were coming from Europe to fight us in Iraq and Afghanistan. What is different in this case is that Western governments that were fully aware of what was happening and historically try to stop this, did nothing. They sat their hands and watched as hundreds crossed the border from Poland (primary route) into Ukraine to fight there. Worse yet, many of them were basically getting paid with the money we were handing Ukraine. Does that make our governments culpable? Does that make us responsible? I do not think so, but it does mean that whatever mess ensues from this, don't blame the Russians.
