Nicaragua authorizes entry of Russian troops, planes, ships

MEXICO CITY (AP) — The government of Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega has authorized Russian troops, planes and ships to deploy to Nicaragua for purposes of training, law enforcement or emergency response.

In a decree published this week, and confirmed by Russia on Thursday, Ortega will allow Russian troops to carry out law enforcement duties, “humanitarian aid, rescue and search missions in emergencies or natural disasters.”

The Nicaraguan government also authorized the presence of small contingents of Russian troops for “exchange of experiences and training.”

Russia’s foreign ministry spokeswoman, Maria Zakharova, told the Russian news outlet Sputnik that the measure was “routine.”

“We are talking about a routine — twice a year — procedure for the adoption of a Nicaraguan law on the temporary admission of foreign military personnel to its territory in order to develop cooperation in various areas, including humanitarian and emergency responses, combatting organized crime and drug trafficking,” Zakharova said.

Or, maybe we might even invade them like the botched Bay of Pigs invasion in Cuba for regime change.

Is that the best you can come up with? Comparisons to a failed attempt by a few hundred Cubans over sixty years ago?!

That is your justification for the large-scale invasion of Ukraine by Russia? For the 40-mile-long column of tanks stalled on its way to the Ukrainian capital? The thermobaric bombs? The hypersonic missiles? The land-grab?

The comparison would be laughable if it weren't so odious!

We have the means to thwart Soviet aspirations in Central America. I know because we've already done it once.

IN 1983, Boss Ray-Gun forward-deployed JTF Bravo to Base Aérea Coronel José Enrique Soto Cano in the central highlands of Honduras. Soto Cano Airbase then was called "Palmerola," which you might remember from the Iran-Contra Affair. Palmerola was Lt.Col. Ollie North's local base of operations.

The Honduran Constitution forbids foreign military forces from being permanently stationed in their country, and the JTF-Bravo slips past that restriction by only having 6-month tours of duty there. In the US military, six months is only a "temporary" change of station, not a permanent one.

The Honduran government buys off on this sleight-of-hand because the JTF-Bravo ostensibly is there in the name of "nation-building." Military engineering units rotate through on shorter "deployment for training" tours (2-3 months) to engage in infrastructure-building. Roads and bridges and such. And medical units rotate through to run inoculation drives in the least developed regions of the country. It's a quid pro quo (bribe) to get the Honduran government to ignore their own constitution.

But that's not why JTF Bravo is there. JTF Bravo is there because Honduras is centrally-located between Guatemala, El Salvador and Nicaragua. And because Soto Cano has an 8000-foot runway.

8000 feet is enough runway (conditionally) for a C-5 Galaxy to operate out of. A C-17 Globemaster can land, take off and land again in the same pass down a strip of asphalt that long. Easy-peazy.

Which means we could land and disembark a Ranger battalion there in 30 minutes, with time to spare. Or 10 minutes if they paradrop in. And developments like this are exactly why Ronaldus Magnus brokered a deal with the Hondurans to let JTF-Bravo be permanently stationed within its borders.

But means to resist is useless without the will to use it.

Can you imagine the utter mess and destruction Bidens going to leave to the next President to clean up? Not so sure if I was Trump if I’d want it.

Excellent point!

...and don't appreciate being smeared by your lumping me in with others.

I'm sure many Freepers who have been arbitrarily smeared as "pro-Putin" or "pro-Russian" can identify!

And in some ways, the worst part of the picture for Mr. Trump (if he serves as president one more time), will be a new crop of lying, cheating RINO backstabbers infiltrating the administration on behalf of the D@mocrats...

Of all the deficits we run, and there are many, the biggest is genuine humility. It will be the most difficult to overcome.

Coming to possess a genuine sense of humility is *much* easier to learn than be taught. You sir, are among the many about to be taught a lesson you will never forget, and it is no one’s fault but your own.

The first part was ignored by Europe (mainly Germany), not us.

And didn’t Kerry declare the entire doctrine to be “over” when he was Obama’s SOS?

No; 1917 was not an abrogation of the Monroe Doctrine. Much as I despise Wilson, he knew that he could not ignore the real threat that the public wanted to deal with (not him; he was re-elected [I presume; don’t know how far back stolen elections go at this point] on the craven slogan “He Kept Us Out Of War”), certainly if he valued his political survival.

Germany had no colonies in the Western Hemisphere, our “allies” Britain and France did.

I’m not saying that there weren’t real reasons for us to enter WWI, but our entrance did abrogate the half of the Monroe Doctrine that most have never heard of. It was sort of a quid pro quo...you don’t mess with ‘our’ continent and we won’t mess with yours.

Europe often had good reasons for interfering with the independent American nations, usually debt, but that didn’t stop us from warning them off.

You are right. That will wait until the Russian military is on our border in Mexico. Don’t doubt that the government is working on “regime change” in Nicaragua just as it is in Brazil.

On the positive side Trump had 4 years of introduction on how vicious and dangerous Washingtons politicians are....how dirty they play and the attack dogs they use from the media to various Gov. departments they’ve armed for battle.

He also insitutated many changes so he knows how to get them back on track if they’re not blocked by legislation. ...which is what the Dems are trying to do now....prevent that from happening if Trump does run again.

Demorats want someone as Pres. they can fool the citizens to believe Congressional members “work together”, to paint a rosey picture while they stab the citizens in the back. Trump exposed that front. And Dems really had to “work” to find the loopholes etc. to strangle Trumps efforts.
