The Case Against Donald J. Trump
The Bulwark ^ | June 10, 2022 | Charlie Sykes

Kevin McCarthy is a dolt. The refusal of the Trump/GOP to participate in the committee meant that they were shut out of last night’s hearing. They had a chance to make their case, but chose instead to sulk. As last night’s evidence unfolded, that decision looked more and more like an act of supreme political malpractice.

The piece is leading never-Trumpers exulting over the first day of the January 6 Committee televised hearings. Most FReepers could probably summarize the comments accurately without needing to read them. Nothing to learn there.

But near the end there's this one paragraph that I agree with. I know McCarthy didn't want to "legitimize" the Committee. As a practical matter, though, people who aren't already pro- or anti-Trump will see that there are some Republicans and won't focus on the details.

I now think that McCarthy erred. Maybe "dolt" is too strong a word, because he had his reasons, but our side would be better off if we had people up there to present a Minority Report and expose the weaknesses in the majority's narrative.

Here I’m confused, because I heard that Nancy Pelosi rejected various Republicans who McCarthy wanted to be on that committee. In any case, the liberal view is that it is bipartisan because of Liz Cheney, so any discussion of optics and such, is that this is bipartisan.

I agree. The Bulwark is not to be trusted. They are supposed conservatives who get support from Democrats.

I think McCarthy named several people, Pelosi rejected a couple of them, and McCarthy said that if he couldn’t have all his nominees on the committee then he wouldn’t have any. That’s why all the members, including the two RINOs, are Pelosi’s choices. McCarthy could have put some people on the committee, but he didn’t.

Pelosi banned Jim Banks and Jim Jordan from the committee.

The whole thing is a fraud.

Well, 95% bullshit, and I hope I flagged it that way. But I think the one paragraph I excerpted is sensible.

Oh, there are a zillion things the GOP could hold hearings about. But do you mean they'll do a new investigation of January 6? Try to uncover some evidence of Antifa/BLM involvement?

I'd think that would be way down, like number zillion and one on the priority list. The GOP won't get involved with January 6.

mccarthy is uniparty and thus the enemy. so there was never anything good he was going to do.

but if he were a true conservative and leader, his basic tactic would/should have been to throw the turncoat republicans like cheney, et. al. immediately out of the republican house caucus, if they chose to participate in the star chamber.

I see you’ve been hitting the Skooma again.

Establishment will not do a damn thing.

They had a chance to repeal Obamadon’tcare, and its still in place. I have zero faith in any of them.

Pelosi would accept only anti-Trump RINOs as members of the Committee. Rejecting committee members selected by the Minority Leader is a violation of the settled practice of Congress, with refusal to name alternative members being the Minority’s usual remedy. The tactic worked because, without effective, combative GOP members, the investigation and hearings lacked drama and have racked up dismal ratings. The January 6 Committee is a dud, losing out to reruns and home improvement shows on cable.

You are right. Jordan and McCarthy were rejected.

Once again, the media can’t get the facts straight.

No cross-examination.

I would bet a year’s salary that the violence was not perpetrated by our people.

What are you up to here?   Pelosi refused to let selected Republicans on the committee.   Did you expect McCarthy to submit RINO names that Pelosi would approve.   That's hosed up.

How many times did you hear, “Elect me and I will repeal obama care.” “Me” was elected and obama care was not repealed.

There is an old saying, the police are not you friend, remain silent. This goes doubly for this BS kangaroo court. If it had been open from the beginning, then it might have been useful to testify. But when it was closed, and then open like it is now, lots of room for abuse and lies. Most of what we hear are lies.

I would bet a year’s salary that the violence was not perpetrated by our people.

When I saw the video of Ray Epps whispering into the other guy's ear and backing away while the other guy lead all the others in removing the barricade, it was a dead giveaway.   Ray Epps was a Federal Government PsyOps commander directing the breach with military precision.   There is also video from the night before of Ray Epps telling a crowd to go into the Capitol Building the next day while some in the crowd yelled, Fed, Fed, Fed!

Now they say the January 6th Committee interviewed Ray Epps and he denied that he was a government asset.   Why is he not in jail just like all the others when video evidence proves that he was a ring leader?   His say-so alone is apparently good enough for the January 6th Committee.
