On May 27, 2022, at Clay’s Wellston Food Market in Missouri, next to the Illinois border on the east side of St. Louis, a man “openly carrying” an AR15 type rifle, under a jacket, with a “gun sleeve” on the rifle, was accosted by an armed man who approached him from behind and demanded the rifle and the jacket. From ksdk.com:
Major Ron Martin with the North County Police Cooperative spoke to 5 On Your Side after the shooting. He said that moments before the shooting, a customer with a rifle had entered the grocery store.
Martin said the patron was “open carrying” the rifle in a gun sleeve underneath an article of clothing and did not threaten anyone while inside the store.
The robbery did not go well for the robber, who turned out to be a career criminal. It seems the owner of the rifle objected to the theft. Strenuously. With gunfire. From fox2now.com:
According to court documents obtained by FOX2, surveillance footage captured Booker putting a gun to the head of the rifle-toting individual before he took the AR-15 and a jacket. The footage also showed him wielding a pistol he possessed, in addition to the stolen AR-15 rifle while several others were present.
Police say the victim of the stolen rifle fired shots at Booker, who was struck multiple times. That victim left the scene, but police believe another man returned moments later and also shot the man who took the rifle.
Officers found Booker laying in front of the store with several gunshot wounds. He was treated for his injuries at a hospital. Authorities served a warrant for Booker’s arrest on Tuesday. Booker is scheduled for an arraignment hearing in the case for June 6.

“surveillance footage captured Booker putting a gun to the head of the rifle-toting individual before he took the AR-15 and a jacket.”
Lousy situational awareness. Pathetic. I hazard to say that this dweeb should reevaluate his intentions and, consequently, his actions.
IBTT:
This article could easily have been about a brazen murder and an easily stolen rifle.
Dumbass.
“Is there anybody who ISN’T a “victim” in this story? What lousy writing.”
Reread. Only one victim is referenced.
“reevaluate his intentions and, consequently, his actions.”
Neglected to mention reevaluating his marksmanship (perp should be dead).
“It would appear the rifle owner also was carrying a second weapon.”
Pistol retrieved from truck.
May as well have been in a locked hardcase.
Bad guy took bullets. Good guy got rifle back. I still consider it a successful transaction.
It is a crime hotspot.
The police are there multiple times a day.
Drug dealing, robbery, rape, bad checks, all happen there with some frequency.
In 2019 a police officer was murdered there.
It is not what most would consider an "ordinary" grocery store.
“...the victim of the stolen rifle fired shots at Booker, who was struck multiple times. That victim left the scene...”
So the guy who had the rifle stolen from him was a victim.
Booker was shot and was a victim.
So I count two victims. Don’t you?
Sure. I’ve got weapons back.

I had a .357 stolen from my house and I knew who did it. The police got him and the pistol the next day. The thief got 3 years and actually served 2 years, it took me 3 1/2 years and a lawyer to get my gun back.................. Illinois.
It may take a year or so, but he should get it back - he needs a lawyer to ensure it.
As a side note, this article is just more proof how woefully bad the 5.56 round is as this dummy took multiple hits from it at close range and is still breathing.
My Dad grew up in Wellston during the Great Depression. It was poor back then when we would visit grandma. I cannot imagine what it is like now, and I have no intention of finding out.
Nope. Rifle was stolen and victim retrieved pistol from trunk and shot robber with that.
I don’t believe the attacker was shot with the rifle, unless I missed something when I went to Ammoland. Also, ask Anthony Huber, Joseph Rosenstein about getting center punched by .223.
Ah. It’s different in Georgia.
Well, dude retrieved a pistol from the car. Perhaps it was chambered in 9MM Lungbuster.
The question arises as to why he was not CC the pistol. It appears to me that the conjecture above that the carrier of the rifle didn't want to leave it visible in the vehicle and was carrying it for that reason and not to engage perps.
Obviously, he should have CC'd the pistol as well.
Video of the shootout here:

Total s-—show, two bystanders shot.
I’m totally confused by the writing. No idea how a guy robbed of his gun could shoot the perp.
