McCarthy says 'everybody in the country' bears responsibility for Jan. 6 attack

As the Jan. 6 select committee prepares to unveil some of the findings of its investigation into the riot at the Capitol by those who sought to overturn the results of the 2020 election, House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy on Thursday offered his spin on who was to blame for the attack: everyone.

During a news conference on Capitol Hill, McCarthy was asked whether he still agreed with his own public and private comments following the Jan. 6 riot that former President Donald Trump bore some of the responsibility for the violence.

“Look, I’ve answered that many times,” McCarthy responded. “I thought everybody in the country [bore] some responsibility based on what has been going on — the riots in the streets, the others." (He has made similar claims in the past.)

The attack itself was committed by a mob of then-President Donald Trump's supporters, who stormed the Capitol in an attempt to disrupt the certification of Joe Biden’s victory in the Electoral College. So far, 306 of the 860 charged in connection with the riot have pleaded guilty. A number of Capitol Police officers were assaulted during attack, which followed Trump holding a nearby rally and urging his fans to “fight like hell” on behalf of his false claim that the election was stolen.

McCarthy’s comment was an apparent reference to the protests that gripped the country following the police killings of Black Americans in several cities in 2020. The violence that occurred in those demonstrations has provided Republicans with a line of argument to suggest that the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol was simply part of a larger pattern.

I told you my fundamental thinking in #40. There is nothing to add or modify.

Maybe a solid lawyer still would have lost. But Rudy was everything but solid.

those who sought to overturn the results of the 2020 election

They've twisted "seeking to expose the fraud of the 2020 election" into "overturn the results of the 2020 election". They are perpetrating a huge deceit. Deceivers.

McCarthy is trying to walk a line of appeasement to the DiᵐckRats, but soils himself in the process. Fool.

Whenever a RINO/Deep Stater gets Primaried, they make sure to have multiple OTHER Republicans to split the vote, and/or, another planted RINO just in case the PERP gets defeated. The NEWEST game is to disqualify ALL contenders that pose a threat.

Hope Hicks doesn’t want us to hate her because she’s beautiful. Everybody else you mentioned, I agree to the 45th Power.

It was as though Trump remained watchful of everyone until they became part of that last outter ring of influence. Once you were seen as a ‘proven’ insider, he quickly dropped most all inhibitions and became quite casual with sharing all his inner thoughts and intentions. For someone as wealthy and (wisely) stealthy as Donald Trump, it is probably a great relief when he deems it safe to open up and thus, to freely speak up.

Always hovering over the center...always playing defense... McCarthy, as usual, doesn’t have a clue. He can’t go after Pelosi and the Rats for not protecting the Capitol. Gingrich tore into Nanzi on FOX tonight. McCarthy can’t...his instinct is to play safe, because he’s a moderate and really doesn’t know what he believes in—other than staying out of harms way. Disgusting...

Right here on FreeRepublic, there was a thread in December 2020 that said Antifa and BLM were going to wear MAGA gear and cause problems on January 6th.

I have been seeing that. I didn’t vote for many Republicans this election. I went mostly with the non-party.
I got gerrymandered into McCarthys District this year. His guys called me asking if I would support him. I honestly didn’t know who he was, and I read FR everyday. I asked if he was the guy from San Diego? Nope. I asked if he was one of the guys that voted to impeach Trump. Nope. Then he told me Kevin was the House minority leader... and I said Oh! Isn’t he a RINO? He chuckled and said no he was a conservative. He asked if I would post a sign, and I said sure. I never got the sign.

The election results were overturned in the wee morning hours of Wednesday, November 4th when the RATS stole the election from President Trump.

Plus an assist from the RINOs in the weeks that followed.

Yup, good way to put it. "Overturning the Results" was the work of the DiᵐckRats. Trump was trying to Set the Results Upright again.

Kevin had his primary yesterday, and prevailed.

So he can offend all his voters today.
