Russia’s military has declared that its desired strategic “land bridge” connecting Russian national territory with the Donbas and Crimea is complete, according to statements given to CNN senior national security correspondent Alex Marquardt. The Tuesday Russian military statement said that “roads and rail lines between western Russia and Crimea are operational,” which marks that “the land bridge is complete.”

“Conditions have been created for the resumption of full-fledged traffic between Russia, Donbas, Ukraine and Crimea on six railway sections,” Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said. “Automobile communication has been opened from the territory of Russia along the mainland to Crimea.” Thus it appears the Kremlin is touting its own ‘mission accomplished’ moment, at least pertaining to the eastern and southern theaters of the war.

Starting in April, the defense ministry announced its “phase 2” plan for the invasion while pulling back in the north, and abandoning the fight outside the capital of Kiev and other cities deep in Ukrainian territory. It stated as its prime objective “control over southern Ukraine and Donbas” – where fighting has been heavily concentrated over the past two months…

I am against the invasion based on loss of innocent human life, adverse effect on supply chains, and general counterproductive destructiveness.

That said, a land bridge from Donbas to Crimea makes sense for Russia to want, even though it doesn’t justify how they took it.

What doesn’t make sense is why they wasted so much time attacking the rest of Ukraine.

Why did you post a map from 28 February? The battlefield is much different now.

Ukraine, supported and encouraged by Biden, was the problem and wouldn’t let the Donbas leave (they had voted to do so).

Personally, I think this was all because Dementia Joe and his advisers thought it would make him look like a macho wartime president. It didn’t matter how many Ukrainians or Russians died in the attempt to shore up Biden’s aged..well, you know.

Same here. He remembered all the “cool” presidents, like his boss, got a War of some sort. Due to Trump that wasn’t gonna happen on it’s own so his advisors made sure he would egg it on.

It was probably also a attempt to prop up his approval rantings. Hover, the WH is totally inept and it backfired.

“its desired strategic “land bridge” connecting Russian national territory with the Donbas and Crimea is complete”

Do the duped American conservatives still think this is “about Nazis and homosexuals” and not Russia achieving strategic conquest?

“Congratulations Russia, on the success of your raw, naked aggression.”

Something like that?

Congratulations indeed. Already the Duma is lining up Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Moldova, Poland, Kazhakstan and maybe a few more.

Because this one was such a walk in the park.

The latest wheeze: Due to some process technicality, it seems Lithuania has been independent for 31 years BY MISTAKE...

If the Duma votes in favor, the result will be that Russia formally considers Lithuania as still part of the USSR, and is therefore still part of Russia.

Is this similar to the Alaska bridge that brought all the Australopithecans over?

That’s a bad map and old. You might want to update it.

It will be hard to protect all those miles of rail line from sabotage.

“Do the duped American conservatives still think this is “about Nazis and homosexuals” and not Russia achieving strategic conquest?”

It is both.

Putin plays chess and can have multiple objectives.

Western leaders can only focus on one thing at a time—pervert pride.

For as long as I have been aware of Biden, he has been bizarrely obsessed with portraying himself as a tough guy, so I believe that you are right about that being one of the factors.
