I am against the invasion based on loss of innocent human life, adverse effect on supply chains, and general counterproductive destructiveness.
That said, a land bridge from Donbas to Crimea makes sense for Russia to want, even though it doesn’t justify how they took it.
What doesn’t make sense is why they wasted so much time attacking the rest of Ukraine.
Ukraine, supported and encouraged by Biden, was the problem and wouldn’t let the Donbas leave (they had voted to do so).
Personally, I think this was all because Dementia Joe and his advisers thought it would make him look like a macho wartime president. It didn’t matter how many Ukrainians or Russians died in the attempt to shore up Biden’s aged..well, you know.
“What doesn’t make sense is why they wasted so much time attacking the rest of Ukraine.”
The Russians and NATO (to be fair here) both wrongly believed the assessments from Moscow that:
1. Russia would be unstoppable in seizing the entirety of Ukraine.
2. Ukraine’s government would fold like a cheap suit and flee.
3. That Ukrainian forces were more poorly trained than the Orcs and were incapable of stopping the mighty Red Army.
4. That brave Soviet forces would boldly attack the hated Nazis and utterly destroy them.
5. That Soviet oligarchs hadn’t raided the defense budget to finance their navy of superyachts, their air force of private jets, and their innumerable mansions and palaces.
Turns out that a lot of people were wrong. The Soviets are not invincible, the Ukrainians know how to fight, and when this is over Putin will be dead.
