Inflation divide: The wealthy splurge, the poorest pull back

Americans at the low end of the income rung are once again struggling to make ends meet.

A confluence of factors — the expiration of federal stimulus checks and surging inflation on staples like gas and food — are driving an even bigger wedge between the haves and have-nots.

While wealthier shoppers continue to splurge, low-income shoppers have pulled back faster than expected in the past two months. They’re focusing on necessities while turning to cheaper items or less expensive stores. And they’re buying only a little at a time.

It’s a reversal from a year or so ago when low-income shoppers, flush with money from the government and buoyed by wage increases, were able to spend more freely.

Kisha Galvan, a 44-year-old mother of eight children from ages 9 to 27, was able to stock up on groceries for the week and buy extras like clothing and shoes at Walmart for her children last year.

Under Trump, wife and I were doing very well, saving money, getting some home improvements done, investing...now all that’s gone, over due to Biden.

Since I retired early 5 years ago I flip cars (1-2 a year is all) to make a little spending cash. Well I’ve got the nicest car I’ve ever tried to flip (2010 Lexus with 94k, clear title) and I’m having more trouble selling it that any in the last 3 years and it easily the nicest car I’ve ever owned.

I thought it was simply because it’s an SUV and gas prices are high. Now I’m wondering if people don’t have the money anymore.

MAGA was the lifeline to the unsubsidized, rural, working poor. Imagine a family with two minimum wage earners, living 30 miles, in opposite directions, from work. At least one pickup truck, a necessity, involved. They are being crucified.

How about turning back to God. THAT is the problem in this nation, but people become enraged when that is pointed out. It is all so preventable and so sad.

It’s almost as if they don’t care... Thankfully, we have them around to remind us that all we have to do is go out and buy an electric car, and all will be well!

I’m reminded of a note from my Dad’s teacher and reply from my Grandfather back in the Depression. It was in the fall.

“Dear Mr. S

Please buy your son some shoes”

she wrote

And my Grandfather replied:

“With what?”

So these fools want people who can’t afford gasoline to buy an electric car that costs half again as much as the other new gas burning car they can’t afford? Right.

It is the same as Marie saying “let the eat cake”. Where is the Bastille and the crowd with pitchforks and scythes? It is time to cue them up.

Biden made it!
While under Trump, the poor were getting better, they are falling under Biden!

Does anyone else see the problem?

Secularists refuse to connect the dots. It's like trying to explain the Teleological Argument to an atheist. He's stuck on his sins and refuses to admit the obvious.

If he admits the impossibility of atheistic evolution, he'll have to repent of his sins. And his sins (immorality, smoking weed, foul language, whatever) are the reasons he became an atheist in the first place.

44 years old with no income but disability and welfare for the past 15 years. 8 children. The first when she was 17 years old.

This is a nice microcosm of half of what is wrong with America. Half is crime. Half is bums living off the dole. Taxpayers have had to pay for her and her 8 brats for the past 15 years. How about getting your tube’s tied, mama? And how many baby daddys were involved in the past 15 years.

You SHOULD be broke and starving if you have 8 kids and no job. That is a pretty nice SUV she driving those kids around.

Yes, the poor are getting crushed right now. The example of the worthless baby factory on SSI Disability is pretty bad. Pisses me off to no end.

America is circling the drain in so many ways. She is a great example.

It’s both. Can’t remember the number but I think roughly 2/3 of the population live paycheck to paycheck.

And no income but on SSI disability since she was 29 years old. What the...? How do you wind up on SSI disability at 29 years old? She is not in a wheelchair. She is obviously able to hump all the groceries you see in her nice SUV.

We are becoming a nation of bums on the dole. It is unsustainable. We are beyond a tipping point where there are more bums in the cart getting a free ride than there are workers pulling the wagon.

We are so screwed.

You end up with stuff like this when legislation like the American Disabilities Act gets passed into law.

IIRC it was signed by a Republican President.

Then you “add on” all the “gibbedat” programs directed towards women over the last 60 years.

“This BS didn’t start yesterday.”
