I see people living in their cars.

Someone has to pay for the free phones and phone service we give illegals...and the free medical care they get at city ER's.... So think of these people as 'retiring to their car' for the evening... The Biden plan is: American's LAST.

On the happier side, Trump can undo the Biden damage so we all need to hang in there for another two years.

Some would say we’re looking at the end of life as we know it. The government, managed by a hive mind of Sandy Cortezes will look after you until its time for carrousel.

Given that:

- people live a lot longer than they used to

- people stopped having nearly as many kids several decades ago

we now have far fewer workers paying into the system per retiree. Something’s gotta give. Either they dramatically raise taxes (probably not politically feasible) or they slash benefits (they’re doing that by stealth via inflation).

Probably the least painful means of closing the massive funding gap is to push back retirement at least a few more years. If we were to push it back to say, 70. That would go a long way toward closing that gap.

Another factor is that people were never intended to live on their social security check and many have not put away nearly enough money to supplement their social security check such that they could live comfortably in retirement.

As for me I’m 52 and my goal is to work until I literally drop dead. I never want to retire. I actually enjoy work and I enjoy getting a paycheck.

I believe that retirement is unbiblical.

That's the dirty secret that nobody wants to talk about.

if you're a govt retiree, you never need to work, saying that you worked in the first place....joking, joking....

I may have to go back to work to pay property taxes....

its insane....you can't even have your dream home with a shop and a garden and flowers and trees and birds singing ....

With taxes, medical care, food, fuel, and damn near everything else priced through the roof it’s going to be tough to retire when I want. On top of that the fckn U.S. government keeps moving the goalposts so the average Joe can NEVER get ahead.

Instead, we get to pay for millions of ILLEGALS and deadbeats!

FU JOE BIDEN AND FU DEMOCRATS AND FU RINOS!

I admit as a Gen Xer, it has been very noticeable and helpful to me that a lot of Baby Boomers retired early when Covid started. I have nothing against those people, but the truth is there was a huge overhang of people who were about 10 years older than I am and I was never going to be able to match their experience. Its awfully nice being more free of that burden for the first time in my career. The job market has been better than ever for me in the last year or two. I hope they can all stay retired.

My wife and I have been retired and living in a gated, golf course community for seven years. Life is good.

“Retirement”

Is a reward for those who made good decisions

and a gift for those too infirmed to work.

I am neither, and therefore I shall work till I am dead.

You may be on to something. Personally, I don’t even like the idea of paid vacations and holidays. This idea of paying someone while they are NOT working doesn’t make any sense to me.

61 and looking for a desk job, don’t need the money I need to be around people, my cat thinks I’m crazy and has stopped listening to me.

I guess the idea is to have a more efficient workforce.

I retired 2 years ago as a legal Assistant of 45 years and a personal fitness trainer of 14 years. Now I work part time as a Doordash driver and I am having a lot of fun with it.

Man, there’s a whole world of interesting, rewarding things to get involved in or to try. Start trying different things and the boredom will quickly end.

I retired 2 years ago at 70. I’m bored out of my mind.

I'm working my tail off and still bored out of my mind. I've got so many things I'm dying to do but don't have the time or energy while working. It doesn't look like I'm going to ever get to stop, either.

...and we are finding it too expensive to maintain.
I'm single & live rather frugally. House & auto paid for. Property tax reasonable. Already own yard & shop tools. Travel almost not at all. My biggest expense in outlaying for a model railroad I am building.

Basically SS & Medicare + supplemental meet my needs. I'm good until I get a major medical or who knows....a tornado or something. I'll never see the Grand Canyon or the Eiffel Tower but oh, well, I've seen pics & videos.
