Mike Pompeo, former Secretary of State under President Donald Trump, has been summoned by a Spanish court to explain an alleged US government plot to assassinate WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange, according to ABC Spain.
The alleged plot was first revealed by Yahoo News in September, which reported that senior CIA and Trump administration officials discussed possibly kidnapping or killing Assange after being angered by Wikileaks' publication of sensitive CIA hacking tools.
The discussions took place "at the highest levels" of the Trump administration, a former senior counterintelligence official told the outlet, with officials even requesting "sketches" or "options" for how to assassinate Assange.
Pompeo has been called to appear in the Spanish court in connection with a probe into whether Spanish security firm UC Global spied on Assange while providing security for the Ecuadorian embassy in London, sources close to the case told ABC Spain.
Assange sought political asylum to live in the embassy for seven years before being ousted in 2019.
Spanish National High Court Judge Santiago Pedraz summoned Pompeo and former US counterintelligence official William Evanina as witnesses to explain the alleged assassination plot and whether they received information through the security firm.
Evanina allegedly previously confessed to having access to security camera footage and audio recordings from inside the Ecuadorian Embassy, Assange's lawyers claimed in letters seen by Spanish outlet The Objective.

I’ll be right there...said Pompeo...LOL
The Spanish are very left wing, and the courts are out of control with their left-wing persecution of “enemies.” I wonder who in the Biden or Obama administration sicced them on Pompeo?
Assange released Hillarys emails and Trump just HAD to protect Hillary so he ordered Assange assassinated. Yep, makes perfect sense.
How does this action by government differ from that purported to be common practice by Putin in Russia?
For one thing Trump was nowhere near the reins of power when Assange came into possession of leaked materials. He merely printed them in the manner of the Pentagon papers. Bradley Manning is the one who was the leaker, and he got a free sex change out of it. Assange is in a hell on Earth FOR NOTHING BUT PUBLISHING FACTS which embarrassed GW and Obama.
Are they sloughing this off on Trump and Pompeo, to distract from others who actually are guilty?
I knew Trump should have pardoned him.
I am sure that the CIA wanted to kill Assange.
I am also sure Trump told them no.
Oh Noes!
If they wanted Julio Sausage dead, he'd be dead.
This is what happened when the Franco regime was replaced with ‘democracy’. Conservative Spaniards knew the communist left still existed but were afraid of the regime. As soon as the left was allowed to freely circulate they began plotting to take over the country. The lesson is the left never really gives up unless most are killed.
Almost as much as they want Trump eliminated.
Exactly, we just don’t know who anyone who worked for Trump really worked for.
We do know who Navarro worked for though.

Agree with you. Don’t trust Pompeo at all.
“The Spanish are very left wing…”

Yes, most of their government are Democratic Socialists with a fair amount of card carrying communists among them.
The USA has communists in our government too, we changed their name to the Congressional Progressive Caucus though.
“ I don’t trust Pompeo at all.”

Just him being CIA give justification not to trust the man, as much as I like him.
It’s a shame what that organization is.
Why would you not trust Pompeo?? He was probably the best SOS we've had since Kissinger.
Pompeo was a great SOS and he seems to have gotten along with Trump. If he were SOS now, none of the Ukrainian disaster would have happened.
I’d rather see him as SOS again in a DeSantis presidency. Like it or not, I think it’s highly unlikely that Trump could get elected again, and I’m not even sure he wants to. But DeSantis is ready to fight back if they try to stop him.
De Santis doesn’t have much international experience, although like Reagan, he is governor of a big state with international contacts and knows how these things work. But if he appointed Pompeo, who is very tough but a negotiator at the same time, it would be spectacular!
What the hell does Spain have to do with Assange or the Ecuadorian consulate for that matter. Tell them to go pound sand.
Left and right have alternated in Spain since Franco. Many of what may seem like leftist policies - such as the welfare state and the national health service - were actually put in place by Franco. European ideologies and party platforms dont map too well to US ones.
The right is very likely to take over after the next election if the PP (Partido Popular, something like the US Republicans, started as Franco supporters) form a coalition with Vox (genuinely far right, grassroots Trump +++). Vox took a huge chunk of votes over the last few years from the PP.
There is a faction of the Spanish judicial system known for sometimes absurd activism, and the structure of it (where judges can investigate and prosecute) allows for “entrepreneurial” investigations and prosecutions, but on the whole it is extremely conservative. The Spanish “deep state” is actually conservative, not liberal. That is why the capital, Madrid, home of the bureaucracy, is a PP stronghold.
