Senator Pat Toomey (R-PA) said Sunday on CBS’s “Face the Nation” that expanding background check requirements for purchasing guns was “on the table” in the Senate negotiations on a gun package.

What about hunter biden? When they arrest him for lying on a background check to buy a gun THEN they can talk about it. Until then STFU!
Another UPOS heard from.
Expanded background checks? Oh, I can see where this leads to. They’ll start asking everything about an applicant’s life including their political affiliation, and we know what will happen then.
its all on the table
they whip out their gun control wish list after every shooting
none of which would have stopped the shooter
but they have to do something!
how about repealing gun free zones
Toomey turned out to be such a waste of a Senate seat.
I have the clear impression from Florida school shootings that any criminal record for students under 18 disappears after they turn 18.
Two of the Florida shooters made verbal and social media threats while students, but none of those threats were disclosed when they legally purchased firearms after age 18.
They will start adding to the list of issues that prohibit possession. In California, several years ago, a couple democrats tried to make a DUI conviction grounds to deny. Either way, this or red flag laws, both are huge victories for the crowd that wants to disarm us.
The transfer, sale, or gifting of my personal property to another person is no one’s business, especially the feds.
Background checks are only as good as the information than can be gleaned from various medical, arrest, and general behavior of the individual while in school and while actively employed.
Much anecdotal information will be missed or never recorded in any documents. Much better, is a screening while all youths are in a school or training environment.
Rather than trying to isolate the possession of firearms, by making access either difficult or prohibited altogether, seize the opportunity and get EVERY youth in America introduced to the practical aspect of firearms and other projectile weapons. This should be introduced as a course of study at the high school level, or even before, first of all demystifying guns of their “powers”, and stripping away the “magic” influence they have over the minds of many people.
Instruction in the care, feeding, grooming and PROPER use of firearms should be taught as a safety program, much like drivers’ education or well, frankly, sex education, but without the propaganda that goes along with it (sex is NEVER safe).
Firearms, like wrongfully used sex practices, have potential to cause considerable harm, both immediately and with far-reaching consequences. This training would serve to weed out the careless, by identifying them very early in the training course, and also may indicate the unstable or those with very bad attitudes rather more quickly than when they walk into a crowded space with loaded weapons and begin to blaze away against unarmed people.
And for the sake of the dear Lord, do away with “gun-free” zones. Anywhere. Everywhere. A very bad idea that DOES NOT WORK.
Murder is illegal in just about any jurisdiction I can think of. Yet it occurs anyway. Take away the opportunity, deny the unrestrained exercise of that act of will, and you may not prevent ALL the murders, but you can certainly keep the genie at bay.
How would a background check keep an angry, homicidal 18 year old — with very little background — from buying a AR-15 and shooting up his school?
Backstabbing sob. So glad he’s going away. Maybe he can do a show called “The Conservatives” with Cheney on cnn and six people will watch it.
Pat Toomey- Another card-carrying member of the Beltway Uni-party.
We’re very quick to retort with anger, but we should be preparing. Some form of gun control is likely to be passed before the midterms. I’d bet a half year of paychecks on it.
How would that prevent any recent shootings? And remember, the NICS system is operated by the government so it’s predictably FUBAR.
You should be doing extended background checks on elementary public school students. That’s who’s doing all the shootin’ and murdering. While you’re at it, how ‘bout an “act” making shooting classmates a crime. Maybe something like murder in the first degree or something like that.
So glad we are potentially replacing this turd with an even bigger turf named OZ….
These pukes want us to run background checks on our parents, kids etc.
