Get married and do your best to stay married: Feminist LOUISE PERRY provides the most vital piece of advice she can offer young women
UK Daily Mail ^ | May 29, 2022 | Louise Perry

The sexual revolution has been a disaster for women – that was the provocative case set out by Louise Perry in yesterday’s Daily Mail.

Here, in a second extract from her powerful new book, she takes on feminists who deride marriage. Yes, it’s hard work, she says, and most don’t live up to a romantic ideal, but it still offers the best protection possible for a woman and her children.

The institution of marriage is now more or less dead. In 1968, eight per cent of children were born to parents who were not married; in 2019, it was almost half. And now in this country there is a divorce for every two marriages.

It was not meant to be like this. Proponents of the 1969 Divorce Reform Act – the key piece of liberalising legislation – believed the changes they argued for would be an act of kindness towards a smallish number of unhappy people stuck in wretched marriages, and lift the stigma from the then tiny minority unfortunate enough to have been through divorce.

‘This Bill does not open the door to easy divorce,’ announced the attorney general of the time. And yet open it did.

There was always a threshold of marital dysfunction above which a marriage was considered beyond saving, and reformers intended to nudge that line only a little.

Yet each marginal divorce made the next one more likely, and the one after that more likely still, with the result that the threshold went hurtling downwards at great speed.

Unfortunately, a huge percentage of today's women are undateable, much less someone you would actually want to get married to.

I could easily say that about the overwhelming majority of the available men out there.

I made 27 years before it became intolerable.

Now, after retirement, marriage is a bad idea for my lady and I. We both have significant lifetime savings and share a home for 13 years. Should either of us require large medical expenses, marriage would put both of our nest eggs into jeopardy. As unmarried seniors, we only risk half of our funds. So... Joint home ownership with rights of survival and 401k and 403b survivor benefits to the other seems to be the smartest condition.

In the United States women initiate 70% of divorces.

And the men are all innocent victims in it, is that right?

Now if you could post actual proof of that claim, you might convince some who don’t accept everything posted as gospel.

You could indeed say that. But young guys have always been a bit footloose, irresponsible and reluctant to get tied down- society has just taken that dynamic and amplified it. It's different with many of today's generation of young women. Not sure if you have had to deal with any of today's woke feminist ideologues - they are filled with hate, entitlement and resentment. They view the world through the lens of their leftist indoctrination and are very difficult to reason with.

The divorce stats are actually much higher than 70%. The most common reason given for the divorce - No major beef with my soon to be ex - I'm just bored and not happy in my marriage.

No, I get to deal with the footloose, irresponsible, immature guys who expect me to be mommy to them. No thanks.

It always amuses me when people talk about supporters of same-sex marriage rewriting marriage. Marriage was rewritten decades ago when if changed from being a permanent union of one man and one woman to a union that lasted until something better came along.

It’s a generation that deserves each other. Guys that won’t grow up and women that act up. Guys are living like Peter Pan but the women are living like the alligator. Feel bad for the normals of both sexes who just want connect with a like minded mate but are overwhelmed by the masses of dysfunction. Big difference is easier for the guys to straighten up and fly right than it is for the women to get their heads straight and reject their toxic woke indoctrination mind set.

LOL! When men have examples like Donald Trump, Rudy Giuliani, and countless sports and media stars, all of whose contempt for the institution of marriage is absolute and complete, then why should the woman try to deal with that fallout?

Marriage with a prenup would work too.

The folks in Davos demand to rule a planet.

Give them Mars—if they go there now!

Truth. Ironically, when you talk to women who divorced their husbands and tore up their families because “they were just not happy” a few years after their divorce you find that they are now VERY UNHAPPY for very real reasons. One of the biggest reasons is that they filed for divorce because they were bored and unhappy for very minor and often non existent self manufactured unhappiness reasons and they are now very much alone dealing with the wreaked lives they left in their wake - especially their own life.

There is one “trick” I always tell young men to change the odds to their favor.

Marry a woman significantly wealthier than you.

The family courts believe in the Marxist principle:

“From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs.”

My mom did the same. Back in the supposed bad old days of “It’s A Man’s World” . Never saw any guys holding her back. Did see plenty of men very happy to make a ton of money working with her. Kind of makes you wonder....

Unfortunately, a huge percentage of today's women are undateable, much less someone you would actually want to get married to. Especially our current crop of college educated, woke feminist indoctrinated women who ooze toxic femininity.

Not all of them are brainwashed. There are some good ones. They are out there. The problem is that many are brainwashed and they believe they are entitled. That's feminism. More and more men are not putting up with it. So anyone wonders why our birth rates have collasped? Of course we need millions of immigrants to keep this country running.

Not in all cases. However, this has been an increasingly common trend in the divorce biz. That's the feedback I get from a lot of divorce lawyers I know. To the point where the ethical divorce lawyers are trying to divert these women to marriage counseling instead of filing for divorce. The less ethical ones are taking full advantage of the trend as a lucrative business opportunity.
