All total...around 20 were executed and I think six or seven were men. Now, that does not include the couple that died before their case came up or died in prison. And of many of those who were acquitted, their lives were ruined, their property confiscated, often by their accusers.
The method of execution was hanging for 19 of them, except for Giles Corey who was “pressed” to death in an attempt to make him plead.

Got to admire Giles Corey for figuratively spitting in their faces while refusing to confess. His famous last words were "more weights!"
We have him to thank for the ban on cruel and unusual punishment as well as the gutsy Rev. John Hale (great grandfather of Nathan Hale, the American Revolutionary war hero) who was initially sent to prosecute the trials but became so disgusted with the conduct of them that he stayed on to carefully record the injustice of the proceedings.

I went to the Salem Witch Trails Museum on a school field trip. There were a bunch of ways they’d try to prove it. One was a door sized hunk of wood that they would put on a woman who was strapped down to a table and then start piling rocks on it.
