Uvalde Schools Locked Down at Least 48 Times This Academic Year
Breitbart ^ | 05/26/2022 | Bob Price

The Uvalde public school district is no stranger to campus lockdowns. In October 2021, Mayor Don McLaughlin reported the district had been forced into lockdowns 48 times during the first few months of the school year, largely due to human smuggler pursuits near campuses.

At the time, Uvalde Mayor McLaughlin joined with a commission of local government representatives of Kinney and Uvalde Counties to demand action from the Texas Department of Emergency Management (TDEM) regarding the growing border crisis, Breitbart Texas’ Randy Clark reported. The county and city officials detailed the consequential impact of the border crisis on local resources.

Robb Elementary School, one of the district’s seven schools, became the scene of one of the worst mass-casualty shootings in American history on Tuesday morning when an 18-year-old man entered the school. By the time the incident ended, the shooter killed 19 students and two teachers.

The mayor told TDEM officials that Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District officials had to lock down schools “48 times this year due to high-speed pursuits and migrants fleeing from law enforcement.”

Uvalde has been swamped with illegals being dumped there by the Biden administration. How much time and effort have the local cops been spending on dealing with that engineered chaos? Have their cops been “defunded”? Have they suffered an exedos of experienced cops like most places, have they had to lower their standards to get more applicants? These are all things that we should be looking into, but I don’t see anyone in the media doing that.

Two interesting tidbits re: the Uvalde incident that I've heard but cannot confirm:
- The school's security guy was on duty at the time but it turns out he was out driving around -- off campus, obviously -- when the murderer showed up. There was no initial confrontation as has been stated.
- The Border Patrol officer(s) who went in and killed the murderer rushed to the school because their own children were enrolled there.

48 lockdowns in a 180 day academic year. More than 25% of the academic year had a lockdown. One day per academic week.

12 minute running gun battle, but no lockdown. 48 was the Rubicon I guess.

OK. That all makes sense now/s.

If true, then you’d think the school staff would have learned TO KEEP THEIR DOORS LOCKED.

“The Border Patrol officer(s) who went in and killed the murderer rushed to the school because their own children were enrolled there.”

One of the BP agent’s wife is a teacher there. She texted him for help, he got up in the middle of a haircut, grabbed a shotgun and went there. His friend is the one that neutralized the shooter.

So far it sounds like the school was negligent. The school must provide the first line of defense, since an attack can be completed before police respond — even if they police are competent.

If they have had frequent security threats, they should have proactively had the outer doors locked and had security manning the single point of entrance. They should have hardened the security by locking interior doors as soon as they got the security alert. They should have had access to a key to open the classroom. The school should have someone on site with a gun and the training to use it.

A business office with similar number of people as a school probably has much better security.

With all that practice, you'd think they'd be able to actually lock it down when someone's firing a weapon outside for 12 minutes.

Well, we know that doors at the Capitol were opened on January 6 to let protestors in to advance an anti-Trump agenda. Is it possible that a school door was opened on May 24 to let a shooter in to advance an anti-2nd Amendment agenda?

No wonder Jose can’t read, write, calculate, or speak English. Too much time spent in duck and cover drills.

”48 lockdowns in a 180 day academic year.”

It should have become a permanent lockdown. If someone’s house is broken into once every three days, he will learn to keep the doors locked.

This is a story of government incompetence. The police and the school administrators are Dumb and Dumber.

Too bad they weren’t locked down 49 times. It seems like when a crazy gunman is out in front of the school shooting at passersby in the street for 12 minutes that somebody inside the school might think it would be a good idea to lock all the doors.

I guess lockdowns become such a boring and normal routine that officials failed to take them seriously.

I cannot imagine that any order like that would not be countermanded before it got down to the school, or obeyed when it got there.

Presser just held, border patrol was on scene around noontime but local cops refused to let them enter the school. This just keeps getting worse and worse. Multiple 911 calls from within the school from students asking for police to come to the school.
