JAKARTA: Indonesia summoned Britain's ambassador on Monday to explain the raising of a lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) flag at its embassy, and urged foreign missions to respect local "sensitivities" following a backlash among conservatives.
Barring the sharia-ruled province of Aceh, homosexuality is not illegal in Indonesia, the world's largest Muslim-majority country, although it is generally considered taboo.
The rainbow LGBT flag was flown alongside the British flag at the country's embassy in Jakarta on May 17 to mark the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia, according to an Instagram post by the embassy.

There's one province in Indonesia that is pretty hard core, but Indonesia is a big country and you could spend a lifetime there and never see that one province.
But one thing I like about Asia, for the most part, is they don't play with political correctness at all. Whether they are tolerant of gays or being gay is a taboo, they're not going to accept a bunch of white leftists trying to push their society in a direction their society doesn't want to go.
Once upon a time, diplomats attempted to be ... diplomatic.
Now they prefer to be “in your face”.
Welllll, yes, you are.
Only heterophobic people use those words
In which part of Indonesia do you find pork? Serious question
Papua and Bali. I bet you can find it in Jakarta, too, but I haven’t gone shopping there in a long time.
I know that in Papua, moslems raise and sell pigs.
Perfect.
Didn't think about Papua.
In the Muslim areas of deep south Thailand (with the exception of Hat Yai), it's pretty difficult to find. Same with most of Malaysia, except where Chinese are sufficiently embedded in the populace.
Right. I haven’t checked in those places. I am pretty sure, though, you can buy pork in Singapore. Malaysia wants to be as progressive as Singapore, but they just can’t quite manage it.
In Jakarta there are quite a few options, including baby back ribs at Outback Steakhouse… https://whatsnewindonesia.com/jakarta/17-best-places-to-enjoy-pork-in-jakarta/amp/
The day after tomorrow . . . see what happened to Sodom.
Singapore is explainable by the number of Chinese who live there. Places like KL or Georgetown in Malaysia also have significant Chinese populations. That also explains Hat Yai as an exception to the deep south Thailand generality.
Honestly, I could find pork in Istanbul also (at least I could in the 80s when I lived there. There wasn’t a law against raising pork, just a moral proscription for Muslims to deal with it.
I understand that during Obama’s reign he had the rainbow flag openly displayed from all US embassies and consulates.
If Indo’s don’t like something nonmuslim, they usually bomb it, like cathedrals, etc., on a weekend when it’s full of people.
Back during the Suharto riots in 98 I has the most magnificent 5 star 6 course meal in the Hilton in Surabaya which included the best bbq pork nasi goreng I have ever had. The meal plus unlimited local beer (Anker) set me back 35000 Rupiah which was about 12000 to the Australian dollar at the time.
I wouldn’t mind going back these days to see the place in much better times instead of gunfire, death, and terror.
