What Sussmann said to Baker in 2016 meeting is at center of Durham case
rmer FBI general counsel James Baker testified in court on Thursday that 2016 Hillary Clinton campaign lawyer Michael Sussmann told him that he was not representing any client when he brought him the information regarding the alleged secret communications channel between the Trump Organization and Alfa Bank.
In the trial of 2016 Hillary Clinton campaign lawyer Michael Sussmann, Baker testified that he was "100% confident" that Sussmann told him he was not giving him the allegation on behalf of a client. Because of this, Baker protected Sussmann's name when FBI agents took the evidence since he viewed him as a source. However, if Sussmann came on behalf of a client, Baker said he wouldn't have protected Sussmann's name, just the client. Baker believed Sussmann was bringing this information as a good citizen.
The former top lawyer at the FBI said the agency was already investigating the Trump campaign's potential ties with Russia, so this information was concerning.
Baker added that Sussmann said he got the information from serious cybersecurity experts.
While Baker noted that it was unusual for him -- a lawyer, not an agent -- to receive material from the public, but that any FBI employee can take information and tips from the public.
Baker quickly told then-Assistant Director of the FBI Counterintelligence Division Bill Priestap about the meeting with Sussmann, who wrote in his notes of the call with Baker that Sussmann was a lawyer for the DNC but not giving the information on behalf of any client. Priestap also noted that a news story would be published about the allegation on Friday and another article would be published in three to four weeks.
Then-FBI principal deputy general counsel Trisha Anderson also had in her notes from Baker's meeting with his deputies general counsel that Sussmann gave the information not on behalf of a client.

6 years later, this blob-o-$*** states the obvious, what everyone knew the minute Sussman showed up.
As if anyone ever thought for a single moment he was just being a good citizen... him and his trash-pile.
This is a farce.
Durham needs to get Baker under oath in front of a Grand Jury next.
Too bad he will never do that.

“Baker believed Sussmann was bringing this information as a good citizen..”
And if you believe that…..

Obviously, that info had come from Baker during his phone call with Priestap. But, Baker had been claiming that Sussman told him (Baker) that Sussman was not representing a client.
Priestap got Baker completely off the hook by saying that he (Priestap), after two years, no longer had a clear recollection of the phone call or his notes.
Total lies. He said they already had an open investigation on Trump... That was also based on total lies.
What a sham the FBI and our government has become.
“...what everyone knew the minute Sussman showed up...”
True, and now it is part of the court record.
I thought Sussman billed the DNC for the meeting?
“..an open investigation on Trump... That was also based on total lies...”
That’s what investigations are all about - to sort out lies from facts.
yes, they cover for the wealthy.
And we all know James Baker isn’t a liar, don’t we?
Some stuff I’ve read indicated he did charge his clients on some of those Russia disinformation efforts.
Wealth, probably, but it’s mainly because they’re all leftists.
