Baby formula shortage is a public health crisis
Fox News ^ | May 18, 2022 | Dr. Marc Siegel

The current infant formula shortage crisis didn’t occur overnight.

In fact, it can be traced back to the beginning of the pandemic, when families across the country, facing lockdowns and closures stocked up on many basic foods including formula. Of course this problem was exacerbated this February, when the FDA instituted product recalls and closed the big Abbott plant in Sturgis, Michigan, with more than 483 "observations," including the possible though unproven tie of several cases of bacterial contamination causing illness and death of two infants.

But this closure has now stretched on for months which is far too long, and with all the media attention and panicked buying, more than 40 percent of America’s baby formula supplies are now out of stock on store shelves.

In other words, in a highly regulated attempt to ensure formula safety, the FDA has helped create a greater problem

It is a power the Federal Government should never have had. Amazing how the Commerce Clause has been strenthed to an everything else Clause.

RE: Baby formula shortage is a public health crisis

Well, I do know my grandparents (combined, 14 kids) and to a lesser extent, my parents (2 kids) got along pretty well without baby formula and baby food. Hell, they didn’t even have a blender to smuch it up.
So, I suspect that except for the most incompetent, most parents will find a way to cope.
First thing they need to do is figure out how to make a Sugar Tit, then go on from there.

About 40 years ago baby formula was considered something greedy companies sold to financially milk Third World mothers.

Cow milk was what my generation was generally fed. Breast feeding became popular when I was in my teens.

I think about half of the formula typically used in the USA is government paid for.

One part of government is impeding to flow of “free stuff”.

For freeloaders, that’s a crisis.

Article I, Section 9 clearly indicates the Article I, Section 8 commerce clause was to be limited in scope.

Slaves did not have to be paid $15/hour or to have paid family leave.

Or you can try to get some from the warehouses filled with baby formula for the illegal aliens crossing the border.

Here is a substitute if needed. I make no claims, I am not a pediatrician, but this may work during a shortage:

There were not 483 "observations" as each of those is a big deal. Any pharma/med device production inspection reports are delivered on a Form 483.

And the FDA could find no evidence of the bacteria responsible for the kids injuries in the baby formula production line. None.

The FDA has the best foot draggers on the planet. Hopefully those dragging feet will be amputated.

Condensed milk and some Karo syrup as a sweetener. Gee, haven’t folks been raising kids for centuries without formula?

Yes, in my teens is about when it became popular to me as well.

Maybe the DEMONrats can defend the lack of baby formula by declaring that infant starvation is merely an unfortunately-delayed abortion.

Slavery itself was an example of how limited Federal power was to be. A document that was otherwise devoted to liberty and freedom had no power to stop individual states from the practice of slavery. Of course the contradiction could not last and the First Democrat-Republican War was the result.

“Well I have to jump in this discussion and honestly admit that I was breastfeed as a baby, I am now 75 and I still like it...”

My mom got sick when I was three days old - they put me on formula. I’m 70 now .. . STILL waiting to be breastfed .. .

I have memories from being a toddler. I KNEW there were 2 different products in the baby bottles in the fridge. One was formula ( which I detested ) and the very rare alternative was cow’s milk with cream added - THAT’S what I wanted .. .
