A former China Eastern pilot who has emigrated to the US and was very familiar with the history and culture of Chinese airlines wrote an article after the crash on what he believes contributed to this tragedy. The first officer who flew the plane into the ground was a former senior captain with Yuhan Airlines. This airline fell into disfavor with the government and was merged into China Eastern. The senior Yuhan people were all demoted in status and salary. This veteran captain was now assigned as the first officer to a much younger, junior captain who had far fewer hours and was less experienced. This would have been a terrible insult to the former captain, and he may have snapped when he had to submit to the directions of his “inferior” if they disagreed with his judgement.
Pilots for most airlines must be evaluated for psychological problems and especially if there was a labor dispute involved in a merger that could have created bad feelings.
“Somebody did something.”
I watched a Chinese woman who does a western version of what’s really going on in China. She’d done some amazing investigative work. The copilot had been the senior pilot for the airline, a prestigious position that probably paid in excess of $190kUSD. Apparently, he was demoted after what appears to be a trumped-up incident. The idea was to replace him with the much more junior son of a highly placed CCP official. She said that political jobs like this were the norm and the former chief pilot had actually earned the position with some phenomenal number of incident free flight hours. If he was demoted to make room and salary available to hire a political appointee in his place then it was a huge, humiliating loss of face. She speculated that based on how differently the CCP was handling this case than it has handled other cases that they are covering up something embarrassing. (Something that would cause a loss of party “face.”) She detailed the differences between this and other crashes. Also, the CCP has assigned three (3) “minders” to each of the surviving relatives to keep them off social media. This is unprecedented.
I could not find her video and, so far as I know, she’s the only one who had this story along with the bio’s of the two pilots.
Psychos come in all flavors. Like that jet pilot who flew his plane into the side of a mountain in the Alps.
Hi.
Was something said that sounded like “Aloha Snack Bar?”
5.56mm
“Are they going to question the crew?”
And where did they bury the survivors?
I asked because that German pilot who augered his plane into the ground was on SSRIs. In Germany if you are on suicide/homicide inducing drugs you can’t be a pilot now.
Recent story in WSJ pointed out several such deliberate-seeming crashes in recent years, nobody with a clue except that they plunged straight into barren rocky erf.
Beyond that hush hush.
‘Watch “Air Disasters” on The Smithsonian Channel. You may never want to fly again.
Simple, simple things bring planes down.’
I’m with you. To me, people who fly all the time are crazy. Haha, if you think flying ten or more times a year is fine, let me tell you about this one neighbor I used to have who was a long-time employee of one of the biggest air travel companies in the US. If it won’t cause you at least to think twice about frequent air travel, then you really ARE nuts.

One of mine and my wife’s favorite shows. The good thing is that every failure, whether by poor design or procedure, that leads to a tragedy, gets thoroughly investigated and changes implemented so that it doesn’t happen again. I agree that a lot of times my wife and I can’t believe that something so simple or stupid had caused such a tragedy, but, those things get fixed and don’t happen again.
Watch it every Sunday. I now drive everywhere I go.
Wowee, thanks for posting. I always learn interesting stuff on this board.
Ah. Riiight. Investigated. Not questioned. Lol. Sorry. My bad.
“Who was on the plane that Hillary, Fauxi or Bill #Bluescreenofdeath” wanted dead?”
Funny you asked that, I was thinking the same thing. I had read somewhere previously that Swalwell’s Chinese piece of a$$ and spy Fang-Fang-Bang-Bang was on that flight, but I have yet to independently corroborate that....

White supremacist.
My VERY first thought.
I think they are looking into their backgrounds. But poor reporting nonetheless.
There were a lot of people, that I worked with, that I wouldn't let them sweep the floor of my shop, let alone work on those planes. Yet they did.
I always get a couple of stiff drinks before I fly, which amounts to approx. once every 10 yr's or more between flights. If your going down, at least I'll be happy.
