John Haughey @JFHaughey58 · 1h Deliberations begin Tuesday morning at the E. Barnett Prettyman U.S. District Court in Washington, D.C., in Michael #Sussmann's trial for allegedly lying to the FBI about the #Trump Organization's purported ties to a Russian Bank
There will actually be 16 jurors seated during the trial with four not knowing that they are alternates and will not be "in the room" when the case goes to the jury for a verdict.
Lengthy discussion regarding the infamous #SteeleDossier ...former British intelligence agent Christopher Steele cannot be compelled to testify so the dossier will enter the case tangentially in testimony from several witnesses, including #FusionGPS employee Laura Seago.

Prosecutor Jonathon Algor questioning Fine, an attorney who now works for the Open Society Institution. She was a deputy campaign counsel. Asked if she could explain the campaign’s leadership structure, she said: “No.
This has been going on so long that Durham's file photo shows Brown hair. When I saw him walking into court yesterday he was totally White hair.

Algor is asking Fine about what “opposition research” is. “I conducted research to support the campaign. I am not comfortable discussing what that was used for,” Fine said

Fine testifies that in calls with Fusion GPS, nothing about Alfa Bank came up, nor was there any discussion of bringing allegations of ties between the bank and Trump to the FBI.
Fine says she had no knowledge at the time that Sussmann went to the FBI with the Trump-Alfa Bank tip.

Seago says she attended a meeting with Marc Elias, Sussmann, another Fusion colleague and Rodney Joffe about the allegations of communications between Alfa Bank and the Trump Org.
After the meeting, Seago says she did some research on the alleged communications between Alfa Bank and Trump Org
Seago testifies that she met with one journalist, Frank Foer, to discuss the Alfa Bank-Trump Org allegations.
We certainly hoped he would publish an article,” Seago says of Frank Foer.

It appears the government is using this witness to lay the ground work for convincing the jury that Sussmann was representing clients Joffe and the Clinton campaign when he passed the Alfa Bank-Trump Org tip to the FBI.
THANK YOU for your “reporting.” I don’t have one minute to keep track, and the snippets on radio news don’t tell much.
Appreciate it!!!
is the trial continuing today?
Yes

Questioning by the government is over. Court is taking brief recess. Resuming at 11.

She confirms that Joffe did seem like a reliable and credible expert in the field.

On the FBI probe into the Alfa Bank-Trump Org alleged communications, Seago testifies: “I had no knowledge of that investigation.”
Seago says she felt the Alfa Bank-Trump org story was important. “I thought it was a matter of national security if a Russian bank was interfering in our elections,” she said.

Seago said “my bosses at Fusion” wanted to get an article in the media about the alleged Trump-Alfa Bank links. She went with Frisch, Berkowitz to journalist Franklin Foer’s home to discuss the allegations. He then wrote an article for Slate. #SussmannTrial
Much of the discussion between Algor and Seago relates to who sent who emails and who was CC’d on different emails between August and Oct. 31, 2016. Seago said she was not “personally aware” of any other efforts to contact other journalists other than Foer.
d’oh! thanks for this Janet. I guess I didn’t refresh before I posted, asking about today’s trial.
I do hope this goes somewhere good (for once, in a really long time)
here we go

Elias is testifying about the fee schedule for how Perkins Coie was paid by the Clinton campaign. It was a flat fee, meaning it did not matter how many hours are worked. Early in the campaign the amount was higher- $130K a month - but then later the monthly amount decreased

Elias said he was responsible for hiring Fusion GPS for its research/investigative services
The government is presenting an exhibit showing the consulting contact between Perkins Coie and Fusion GPS
Elias confirms the seemingly obvious: Sussmann was aware Perkins Coie had retained Fusion GPS
