“You gotta do what you gotta do to survive, the best way you know how,” said Daryl Dozar, who has been a truck driver for 15-years.
Surviving. That’s what some truckers continue to do every day.
“I’ve seen fuel prices when I started out, a dollar something a gallon and we were squalling even back then. Now 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 dollars a gallon, it’s ludicrous, it’s out of hand, it’s going to drive the trucking industry out,” said Bart Costi, who has been a truck driver for decades.
Now the threat of a potential diesel shortage might become an added strain on drivers. Pilot Flying-J and Love’s both said that there are diesel supply issues, and the companies are monitoring the situation. Several trade publications say diesel supplies on the East coast are now at the lowest in almost 20-years.
“It makes us nervous,” said Costi.
“It’s kind of hard right now, it’s really putting a barren on everybody’s pockets,” said Dozar.
Dozar is an owner-operator, which is a part of the industry that’s been hit even harder by these challenges.
“A company got a variety of trucks, so they have a bigger budget. An owner-op everything, insurance, fuel, anything you do with your truck you gotta pay out of pocket, so it’s really hard on an owner-op, it really is,” said Dozar.

‘IF YOU GOT IT A TRUCK BROUGHT IT”
Goodbye $1 “value menu”.
will it effect ships? food?
will it effect ships? food?
Yes, and yes. Part of the perfect storm is new regulations that require ship to burn low sulfur fuel. And sources of low sulfur crude to make it are curtailed by problems in Nigerian oil fields.
Industrial scale agriculture runs almost entirely on diesel, from seed-bed preparation thru harvest and transport of farm products to market.

I'll bet even the Greeks have a dodge for that.
The $1 Value Menu has been gone since last year in most cities.
Yes, and yes.
Biodiesel has its own problems - top end lubrication, hygroscopic issues that can lead to corrosion and water-in-fuel issues, among others.
I used to spot-heat with K-1 in a portable heater - till they mandated low-sulfur kerosene.
Turns out it also had a biodiesel component mandated in - about 7%.
Guess what that does to kerosene heater wicks whose capillary action deteriorates when they absorb too much water?
Eff the effing government.
I had sticker shock yesterday when filling half a tank of gas. I don’t use much gas but the average family has to be thrown by this.
Image REALLY needs an unmistakable Hammer & Sickle, and some “rainbow” !
Yeah the people running have their head Full of slogans; they’ve never actually sat down and thought through what they spout.
This government will not be happy until we are starving, huddled together for warmth, slowly freezing to death in the dark.
The only good thing is that it’s better than nothing. Though I’d take WVO over Willie’s biodiesel.
Imagine driving over 200 miles per day. It’s expensive. :(
Can someone explain why diesel fuel costs more than gasoline. When I was young, diesel was much cheaper than gas.
