I guess it’s a way to get everyone to speak French fluently or move.
My college French teacher, who was French but born in Algeria, always told us, “Ils ne parlent pas français au Canada.”
I went to Montreal with my dad to visit family in the mid 50s. My cousin took me to a store to buy some caps for my cap gun. I asked the proprietor the price. He just stared at me. My cousin said this asshole speakers English as well as you but wants you to speak French. Never forgot that.

They want to be independent but are unwilling to make the sacrifices necessary to be independent.

To someone from France who speaks pure Parisian French, the Quebecois French accent sounds like someone stepping on a cat’s tail.

Imagine if Quebec declared independence, and then after years of outside pressure and political interference, signed a defense treaty with China and Russia.
This is insanity. When I lived in Venezuela my doctor spoke English as he was educated in the USA. That is why he was my doctor. After a few years I did not care who was my doctor as I could then speak Spanish.
Probably due to the conditions the brit agreed when they took over new France at the conclusion of the 7 years war (the real first world war)
