Pennsylvania Senate candidate Kathy Barnette says she "worked on Wall Street for many years." She's about 955 miles off.
Barnette, a conservative commentator, cited her experience on Wall Street in 2011 and 2020, and in an attack on Donald Trump during the 2016 presidential campaign. "I worked 4 years on Wall Street. Would u invest money w/ someone who was filing bankruptcy?" she wrote of Trump's finances in 2016.
But Barnette's official résumé suggests she worked far from the domain of "bulls, bears, [and] people from Connecticut." She has held three jobs in the financial services industry, according to a now-deleted LinkedIn profile. She was an associate analyst at the Missouri-based A.G. Edwards from 1997 to 1999, and a financial equity analyst at "Banc of America Capital Management," her résumé says. She described the latter as a "major Wall Street firm" but worked for the company in St. Louis.
A Washington Free Beacon geographic analysis found that Wall Street is in New York City, not St. Louis. There is a Wall Street in the midwestern town, but it is largely residential.
The inconsistency emerges as Barnette faces other questions about her background. Barnette, whose surge in polls has caught opposing GOP campaigns by surprise, gave contradictory answers about whether she voted for Trump in the 2016 primary. She claimed this week she did, but said in her 2020 book, "I didn’t vote for Trump in the primaries." Barnette opposed Trump during much of the 2016 campaign, saying his moral character was "questionable," but said she joined the "Trump train" by the general election. Barnette insisted this week she voted for Trump in 2016, but the Pittsburgh-Post Gazette reported she did not cast a ballot in Pennsylvania until 2018..

Yeah sure because working in Pepper Pike OH is just like working in Manhattan and looks just as good on the resume.
Trump picks his friends. You’re exactly right. The perfect examples is Herschel Walker in Georgia. In what universe is he qualified to be a senator?
So odd. But surprised someone hasnt dug that up. Shouldnt be that hard to find
No one debating your point. The debate is whether she deceived when said she WORKED ON WALL STREET. NO SHE DID NOT. She used the commonly used and understood definition. I provided many examples of usage. You are at odds with that commonly understood definition.
I am not at odds but you don’t seem to get it..but it doesn’t matter.
You KNOW she puffed up where she worked to give her gravitas in order to slam trump.
But hey, I trade the market for my income...so I must work on Wall Street, too.
I don’t find her at all likeable. I think she is a liar exaggerating her background and experience. She should have been vetted earlier but it’s all coming out now and the Democrats are loving it.
In the last debate that Greta moderated (badly), Carla Sands was making her closing statement. Barnett started laughing loudly drowning out Sands who stopped talking, waiting for Van Susteran to do her job and shut up Barnett. She didn’t. So, Sands lost precious seconds for her closing statement because of Barnett’s rude, insulting, domineering, unsportsmanlike behavior. She also called Sands’ simple remark that Barnett had lost her other attempt at elective office “salacious.” Salacious?
In case any of you on this forum don’t know, this is the definition of salacious: “having or conveying undue or inappropriate interest in sexual matters.” Sands’ comment about Barnett’s twenty-point loss displayed Sands’ obsession with sexual matters? Barnett isn’t ready for prime time. She’d be going up against Fetterman, a Harvard graduate. Don’t make me laugh.
A family member was listening to the debate from another room, not watching it. When Barnett was answering a question, he called from the other room, “Who is that speaking? She sounds really dumb.” And how.
And, in reference to your comment about her exploiting her shocking personal story; earlier it was reported that her mother was raped at 13 years old. Then it was 12 years old. The latest version is that she was 11.
Would you want everyone all over the world to know that your mother was raped? I sure wouldn’t. It reminds me of Biden capitalizing on his first wife’s death in a car crash. He keeps trotting that out and his poor dead son story at every opportunity. He thinks, apparently, that’ll get him the sympathy vote. Callous and disgusting.
Doesn’t matter if true or not, little true or a lot true, it’s how the perception gets shaped. If Barnette goes it to action- reaction mode her campaign will devolve into a Pennsylvania version of that guy in Missouri who was explaining rape or the guy in Georgia explaining why as a 30-year old he was dating teenagers. Rightness on issues become irrelevant. The campaign soon degenerates into a cartoon. It’s possible they’ll overdue it and generate sympathy. She’ll get a positive rebound. We’ll see !
Anyway, I’m not a Pennsylvanian it will be their decision. Fetterman will be formidable, his looks and the way he sells Bernie-ism plays well Pennsyltucky Pa. Myself sitting in WV I do see Fetterman’s commercials. He’s a scary looking dude, looks and sounds like an out-of-work steel mill worker. One that, blames everything and everyone for being out-of-work. Where the unsaid truth is, he is happy he is as long there’s a government check coming in. (Kind of a giant demonic looking Onslow from the UK sitcom ‘Keeping Up Appearances’!)
All of this is another reason why I am not a fan of the 17th Amendment!
Pretty much agree with you on that first paragraph. These attacks, true or not, would make it hard for her to win in Nov.
Another example of a person writing where a WALL STREET JOB or WORKING ON WALL STRRET does mean in Manhattan but the industry.
The Best Wall Street Jobs
Financial Industry Careers to Explore
“The best Wall Street jobs aren’t necessarily on New York City’s Wall Street or even in New York for that matter. The thoroughfare in lower Manhattan is synonymous with the financial industry, but you can find employment in this trade all around the world. “
Most understand this:
“The thoroughfare in lower Manhattan is synonymous with the financial industry”
Freeper Greeneyes worked, IIRC, at AG Edwards, and might have known her. Unfortunately Greeneyes has passed.
Was that before or after the career on the hog farm?
“Barnette said Thursday she has documents showing her active duty service in the Army, though she did not commit to releasing them.”
why not? FReepers would CRUCIFY any leftist Democrat that claimed military service but wouldn’t verify it with definitive documentation ...
““Wall Street” is understood to refer to the financial services sector. “
i guess that means the manager of my local branch bank and all of the tellers there can claim to work on “Wall Street”, right?
I honestly wish she had run successfully for SOME other office first. I have no confidence in what we are getting with her, and I know Pennsylvania well enough to remember how poorly these “red meat” conservatives do in statewide elections.
Motto of EDWARD D. JONES, also based in ST. LOUIS:
"BRINGING WALL STREET TO MAIN STREET" No big deal.
You have no idea how ironic that statement is. I live in PA but I can’t vote in the primaries because I have no party affiliation at all. LOL.
I saw what she did to Sands, and it was disgusting.
As for her early life story, my niece said she thought it was a little hard to believe.
Sands seems like an intelligent, savvy woman, perhaps too nice for DC.
I wish Lou Barletta had wanted to be the Senate candidate.
I guess it’s too late for that.
Lou Barletta already ran and lost a Senate race in 2018. I knew he wouldn’t be given a second chance in 2022.
