RANDY Weaver, the survivalist known for his role in the Ruby Ridge standoff with the FBI, has died at the age of 74.
His daughter Sara confirmed the news on Facebook on Thursday.
Weaver's wife Vicki and 14-year-old son Samuel were killed by an FBI sniper during an 11-day standoff in the mountains of Idaho in 1992.
The standoff began when the US Marshall Service tried to arrest Weaver for failing to appear on a firearms charge.
Weaver had chosen not to surrender and remained inside his cabin on Ruby Ridge for a year and a half with his family.
When Marshalls showed up at the property, a shootout took place when Weaver, his son Samuel, and a friend Kevin Harris came out to check out the situation.
Samuel was shot by Marshalls, and Harris then shot dead Deputy U.S. Marshal William Francis Degan.
The following day, Weaver's wife, Vicki, was shot in the head by an FBI sniper while she held their 10-month-old daughter in her arms.
Weaver turned himself in 11 days later and was charged with killing Degan, but a jury acquitted him.
He ultimately served 16 months in jail for the original gun charge but following the horror that shook Ruby Ridge, where the family lived, stayed with Weaver until his dying day.
I followed the case when it happened. What actually happened:
Undercover fed asked Weaver to cut down the barrel of a shotgun to minimum legal length (18 inches). But the other legal requirement was that the overall length must be longer than 26 inches.

The sawed down stock made it a quarter inch under the legal limit
The feds then approached Weaver and told him that if he wanted to avoid prosecution, he had to infiltrate the Aryan Nations group for them. Weaver told them to go to hell. Things spiraled from there,
I think Weaver having run for sheriff (unsuccessfully) in 1988 contributed to the political establishment wanting him out of the way.

FBI always gets their man.
Randy was entrapped. Sawed off shotgun quarter inch too short per agent’s request. Nice “democracy” we have here.
LOL!
I have a Winchester inherited from my grandfather that was made circa 1913.
It’s loaded and still shoots well.
“Re barreled” my ass. Sounds like cover to me.
Samuel would have been 44 years.
Wonder how old lon horiuchi is?
“RANDY Weaver, the survivalist...”
Casualty of government’s war on rural America.
As I recall, he cut the barrel to 18 1/4 inches a legal
length, however the stock was short too which made it
under 26”overall, an illegal length.
All to coerce him into being an informant.
And then use loud speakers to callout her name everyday.
“Good morning Mrs. Weaver. How’s your baby Mrs. Weaver?”
This is our FBI and Government.
“Ruby Ridge: When America first discovered that the FBI and our Gov is corrupt.”
Country knew it going back to the Whiskey Rebellion and Prohibition.
I just googled him. Says 1954 DOB
RIP, Mr. Weaver. I met him at a gun show many years back when I was still in SoCal. Seemed like a very calm and collected gent, all things considered.
Just a mistake, though the article is poorly written.
Go to the actual article and it says acquitted.
Ping.
RIP, Randy. May Vicky see you in heaven.
I didn't know that and it doesn't surprise me at all. The FBI seems to like use entrapment a lot. The kidnapping plot of Gov. Whitmer and 1/6 both come to mind.
I heard that they changed Lon’s name and he was moved to an “undisclosed” lifetime location. He could still be found if someone really wanted to, just to ask him “why”, of course.
RIP.
That was back in 1992. Imagine how monstrous the FBI snipers are now.
