Prices at the wholesale level accelerated further in April, part of a broader inflation problem persisting through the U.S. economy, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported Thursday.
The producer price index, which tracks how much manufacturers get for products at their initial sale, rose 0.5% on the month and 11% from a year ago, a decrease from the record 11.5% in March.
Excluding food, energy and trade services, core PPI rose 0.6% in April and 6.9% from a year ago, the latter a decline from 7.1% last month.
Both monthly increases were exactly in line with Dow Jones estimates. Headline PPI rose 1.6% in March while core was up 0.9%.
Gas and groceries have been responsible for much of the inflation surge, with indexes tracking the two sectors up a respective 1.7% and 1.5% in April, according to the PPI data. Auto prices, particularly for used vehicles, also have been a major inflation component, and the PPI index for motor vehicles and equipment increased 0.8% on the month.

The experts are starting to realize what everyone else already knew.
WTAH? Who would have guessed that 80 million votes could be wrong? 😨
I thought they said on the news this data would confirm inflation’s peaked already?
80 million votes. Not 80 million voters.
How long before they blame the “Great MAGA King?”
That’s why I left the “r” out.
Am I doing the math correctly; 11% per month equals 132% per year?
I really hope I am wrong.
Democrats hate capitalism it’s why they destroy it only thing that can stop the is the midterm elections.
Stop the steal
Brandon's policies are working!!
Looks like we are headed towards ULTRA INFLATION
Someone should make a meme of President Carter saying “Miss me yet?”
So, effectively 11% per year, year on year.
Still not good
Gas is $4 here in MO or was a few days ago. Might be higher now. Was $1.69 when Trump was president. $2.69 a year ago so that seems a little more than 11%.
I quit buying paper towels. Rounded up all the old face cloths and kitchen towels I could find and we’re using them.
Got a garden going this year and that’s pretty much the only savings on food I can get because I’ve always shopped the sales.
Blanketed off one room that gets a lot of sun so that we can cut down on air conditioning costs.
Not a whole lot more I can do.
I guess in March it was 11.5% which would be March 2021 to March 2022.
How about March 2019, pre-covid, pre-biden to March 2022?
20%?
It looks like we are going to give the Weimar a run for its Marks..
Walmart canned beans jumped by 56 percent in one week.
From 50 cents to 78 cents a can.
Now it’s 28 cents sure.
But I get 13 cans for what I got 20 before.
I cut way back on my purchases after that.
It’s not the 28 cents (56 percent but I had called it 58 percent oops) it’s the dramatic increase in ONE WEEK.
That happened about 3 months ago.
(Gas is $4 here in MO or was a few days ago. Might be higher now. Was $1.69 when Trump was president.)
I still meet people pretending things are better now.
🙄🙄🙄
Perhaps Biden can calm the masses by declaring that wheelbarrows will be free - easier for you to carry your dollars to the supermarket!
