Biden administration cancels oil and gas lease sales in Alaska, Gulf of Mexico

The Interior Department will not move forward with planned oil and gas lease sales in the Gulf of Mexico and Alaska’s Cook Inlet, it announced Wednesday night.

A spokesperson for the department confirmed the Cook Inlet lease sale would not proceed due to insufficient industry interest. Meanwhile, the planned sale of two leases, lease 259 and lease 261, in the Gulf of Mexico will not proceed due to contradictory court rulings on the leases, the spokesperson confirmed.

Shortly after taking office, President Biden signed an executive order freezing all new oil and gas leasing on federal lands. Last summer, Judge James Cain, a Trump appointee, struck down the ruling, prompting the Biden administration to appeal.

Meanwhile, in January, the Washington, D.C., District Court invalidated another Gulf of Mexico lease sold by the federal government, lease 257. The administration is not appealing the January ruling, although it affects a separate lease from the ones named by the Interior spokesperson.

The Alaska lease would have covered more than 1 million acres. The federal Bureau of Ocean Energy Management previously canceled lease sales in the area in 2006, 2008 and 2010, also citing lack of interest from industry at the time.

Biden making good on his commitment to shut down fossil fuel. At the expense of every American. Well done Democrats.

Not enough rope, tar and feathers in the world.

(What with the supply chain crisis and all.
Of course it’s ironic that tar is a petroleum product…)

Exactly. Next Biden will tell America he approved farmland use in the Anza Borrego desert and say the banana farmers are price gouging because of all the land he leased them.

Guys,

The Cook Inlet oil fields were discovered and first drilled in the 1960s. It produced about 80M barrels of oil. Not per day. Decade(s). The lifetime of the fields.

There is no industry interest because it is a known, fully seismic and drill explored, fully exploited area and the industry says . . . that train left the station. It’s been drained. There are something like 30 wells producing a slow flow, driven by XX injection wells to keep pressure up. There are I dunno, about 10 wells capped and abandoned. You C&A when you realize it’s empty.

The world of the left wing hates the concept of Peak Oil (Peak Oil is the concept that all oil wells produce, raise production, reach a peak, and then decline. Fields do the same (unless you redefine the field and declare it is more area than before).) The left is generally confident this is some BS conservative politics concept to get America to frantically drill for oil and rape Mother Gaia.

The world of the right wing hates the Peak Oil concept because it suggests scarcity exists that price cannot undo. There are also religious overtones in that there is rejection of the concept that God would present us with an impossible problem.

So . . . bipartisan hatred. And it doesn’t matter. Geology has no interest in politics and oil isn’t infinite. Wells do go empty. Fields do go empty. If you think this is insane BS, get out your checkbook and buy those C&A wells and get them to produce oil. The price will be cheap.

Industry can say no to those leases for reasons completely independent of politics. That IS possible.

There have been 3 or 4 articles of impeachment filed on Biden by various republicans since Biden was president. Of course, they are not brought up since the democrats run the House.

But Biden will be impeached when the Rs take the House next year. Many have said there will be 3 charges - not enforcing the laws of the US (open borders), corruption (the laptop) and I forget what the third one is...anyway, just be patient.

Let's hope!

Really doesn't matter.

O'Bidens numbers tanked some time ago. You won't see anyone asking him to campaign with them or O'biden doing any rallies except with the real Obama. Even then they will be minuscule rallies compared to Trumps which is why they don't even bother. The comparison would be hard to ignore by any sane person.

Truth is normal people are beginning to hate dems which apparently was Trumps plan all the time. It worked. He knows Americans are righteous and dems are criminals. Big difference there.

The final coup will be electronic voting when Trump reveals how big that was. Along with the mules it won't even be close in most peoples minds.

Also, one ironic thing that will help us is that we have some rinos who participated in vote cheating. In our party we are OK with sending them to jail since we don't care to have criminals in our party.

Not so in the dem party they take anyone, people will see that and reject it as well.

I can't find the piece I was looking for but it's clear that old wells do rejuvenate and some wells that were capped are now being uncapped suggesting that dry wells can reproduce oil again and do rejuvenate.

Possibly the way they originally got crude to begin with.Lots we don't know about how to get crude. It's hardly at peak oil and it appears there is no such thing as peak oil.

............................

https://www.forbes.com/sites/michaellynch/2018/03/13/old-oil-fields-are-a-major-source-of-new-supply/?sh=61bcc12a3ee4

Here's a clip:

For most of the past four decades, oil supply forecasts (non-OPEC, that is) have tended to be too pessimistic and a major reason is the difficulty of analyzing new reserve additions and incremental production from existing fields.

The activity is relatively small-scale, meaning it doesn't make most analysts radar scopes, and the data ranges from limited to non-existent. But given that the average recovery factor globally is less than 40%, there are easily hundreds of billions of barrels that can be accessed with better technology and more investment.

In the short term, the error is not very large, but longer-term, it adds up and is a major factor behind the perceived scarcity that has dominated the expectations of so many.

...........................

Bottom line any country with half a brain will be using crude, nuclear, wind, solar and anything else that will produce energy.

Do that, especially here in the US and we will once again be kings of energy in a year or two.

But when your objective is to destroy a once fine nation like the obama third term now in progress is it's not even under consideration.

Actions speak louder than words, and Xiden’s actions are only helping Putin so far. Even the “military aid” he’s allegedly giving Ukraine will fall into Soviet, err Russian, hands if/when Putin’s Red Army eventually wins, a la the Taliban getting free American weapons last year. High oil and gas prices greatly help Putin in his quest to be Stalin 2.0.
