Top Republicans are mounting a last-ditch, behind-the-scenes effort to stop state Sen. Doug Mastriano, a leading voice in the movement to overturn the 2020 election results, from winning the party nomination for governor in Pennsylvania.
With only days to go before the May 17 primary, GOP gubernatorial campaigns and leading state and county officials have been in discussions about uniting behind a single candidate to avoid a scenario in which Mastriano wins the crowded race by taking advantage of a splintered vote. If that doesn’t work, another option is persuading the candidates in single-digits in the polls to drop out.

In a statement to POLITICO, Reilly said, “As National Committeeman, I have spoken regularly with almost all of the gubernatorial campaigns over the past [three] months. Last week when the presumptive [Democratic] nominee, Josh Shapiro, and the State Democratic Party used campaign resources to assist the candidacy of Doug Mastriano in the Republican primary, it raised concerns among the campaigns. Those concerns have led to discussions among the campaigns of which I have been occasionally involved.”

It is unclear whether the attempts by Republicans to coalesce behind someone other than Mastriano will be successful. Some in the party expressed skepticism that it would work, dismissing the effort as too little, too late. But others said it was possible it could lead to a candidate or two dropping out, making it potentially easier to defeat Mastriano.

Might be an upset in the US Senate race....momentum is building for Kathy Barnette.
Dr. Oz talks the Reagan/Trump talk but his past (and present) associations make many of wonder if he will really walk the walk...and then there is the dual Turkish & American citizenship issue. I’m not into hyphenated Senators.

Given the results in WV tonight, I’ll bet they are worried. I still hope Barnette wins in PA regardless of Trump’s endorsement.

Doug M. and most PA Republican senators naively voted for mail in voting. I’m supporting Lou Barletta who is conservative and experienced.
I go back to the early days of COVID in March 2020 when he was calling for the government to suspend HIPAA confidentiality rules and register COVID patients in a state database to track them. This tells you everything you need to know about Doug Mastriano. His "freedom and liberty" act is pure, unadulterated B.S. He never held a job outside government in his life, so his first instinct in a crisis inevitably includes two things:
1. Destroy civil liberties.
2. Empower government to trample all over the rights of the citizenry.
This loser isn’t going to win anything in November. As others have posted here on FR in recent weeks … he’ll be lucky to get 40% of the vote in a statewide election.
This is not a MAGA candidate. He's an opportunistic fraud.

Sadly we've got a lot of 'em, all over the country. People are letting Trump do all their thinking for them, and frankly he's getting suckered himself.

Lou Barletta—as the lowly Mayor of City of the Third Class Hazelton—raised the illegal immigration issue while Trump was still raising towers.
Senators have a lousy track record as chief executives whether on the State or Federal level. Think Øbama.
My preference is Barletta for governor.
Sure as hell cant let ANYBODY who cherishes our VOICE and OUR VOTE to win, can we? That’s Un-American, right?
