Moment two Ukraine Su-27 Flanker fighter jets bomb Russian-occupied Snake Island sparking two major secondary explosions

Incredible footage captures the moment two Ukrainian fighter jets bombed the Russian-occupied Snake Island.

Footage released on Saturday shows Ukrainian Air Force Su-27 Flankers striking facilities during a high speed bombing of Snake Island, which was seized by Russian forces earlier this year.

A Ukrainian Bayraktar TB2 drone captured two Su-27s flying low over the island from the south, before dropping multiple bombs and infrared countermeasure flares, TheDrive.com reported.

The southern approach to the island was a strategic measure from Ukrainian forces because Russian defenders on the island would most likely be focused on looking north and west toward the Ukrainian coastline, according to The Drive.

The daring raid appeared to strike direct hits to the island’s main complex and buildings above the pier.

After the initial strikes there appear to be at least two major secondary explosions, which could mean the bombs struck an ammunition or fuel stage area, The Drive reported.

The bold attack comes after Ukraine claimed a TB2 drone destroyed Russian landing ship on the island.

On Saturday Ukraine showed a video claiming to be a military drone hit on a Russian landing ship supplying a TOR anti-aircraft missile system to Snake Island.

The footage appears to show the destruction of a large Serna-type landing craft in an air strike.

'Enemy units remaining on Snake Island remain without air cover and will be destroyed and burned out like cockroaches or locusts,' said Ukrainian official Anton Gerashchenko.

Ukrainian Navy has posted a video showing a Ukrainian Bayraktar TB2 drone taking out another 2 Russian Raptor fast-attack vessels.

The Russian Black Sea Fleet is getting decimated and it all seems to be happening right next to Snake Island.

Expect the Russians to use a much heavier hand soon. Also expect the Poles, Czechs, and Baltics to send in a large expeditionary force under the Ukrainian flag to oppose Russia directly. This will include heavy armor and air force assets.

Given the distance between the Snake Island and and the nearest Russian-controlled territory how do you think a Mi-8 could end up there? Woodoo?

You’d have more luck going out in your yard and talking to a tree.

The Russians appear so incompetent that maybe the EU/NATO/Ukrainian forces show strike at Moscow. After all the Rusians struck Kyiv. If Moscow fell, Russia could be stripped of its assets to pay for all the war damage and reconstruction.

Snake Island is 100 miles from Crimea. Are Russian helicopters so cheaply made they can’t cover that distance?

It is not 100 miles away. A loaded Mi-8 flies about as far as 470 km which is slightly less than a round trip like that, but that’s in a straight like meaning any landing/take-off operation reduces the range so it is not viable to fly from Crimea.

You better disband NATO and defund the military. The Russians are so incompetent that both things are nothing but a waste of money.

We seem to be taking great joy in backing Russia into a nuclear corner.

The combat range of the Mi-8 is about 220 miles. External fuel tanks can be fitted to extend that. The Mi-8TMB variant has a farther range, about 300 miles.

Sure, because Ivan has no other option than to start launching nuclear missiles willy-nilly when folks don’t like his naked aggression. “I swear officer, she made me hit her. The bitch was mouthing off! What other option did I have?”

According to the link below, the MI-8 has a Range of 450 km and a "Ferry Range" of 960 km. Since the MI-8 has 6 hardpoints, I would guess that some of the hardpoints can be configured to carry external fuel tanks.

Mil Mi-8

I would also guess that the Russians would have some 55 gallon drums of jet fuel on the island to refuel helicopters.

BTW, the video clearly shows the tail rotor on the left side, so it was a Mi-8M variant. It had plenty of range. Deny reality all you want, but find better excuses.
