Apparently on fire near the famed Змії́ний island (of "Russian warship, go f*ck yourself"-fame).

The smoke is only from barbecues [...]

Soon to be safely dowsed when the crew is full and content and the ship dives to the bottom of the Black Sea for a well-deserved rest and to "cool off."

Even if this was a one missile hit that did moderate damage but did not sink the Makarov, that indicates big problems for the Russians. The Makarov is a pretty new / modern ship, and a second instance of a Ukie missile getting through the defenses rather blows up the excuses (including “luck”) that we heard for the Moskva.

A pertinent question would be, if the report pans out, what was the Makarov doing within range of Ukie missiles?

“Closer and closer to that first tactical nuke.”

Sad to say, I think you are correct. When that happens, this old earth is going to become a living hell.
However, the Regime, The Party, the neocons and a few others will be happy.

Until that first missile hits.

I think there are a huge number of people, including many in the decision making process, who have not thought beyond “Stage 1”, engaging in what Thomas Sowell calls “Stage 1 Thinking”.

These people want to get us into a shooting war. It is one thing to get into a shooting war with a Syria or Iraq, neither of whom have nuclear weapons or a Navy to speak of.

If we get involved, and a Moskva type of Russian vessel provides fire support and kills a few dozen of our troops, we would probably sink the ship, having assets to do it.

We sink that vessel, killing hundreds of them, what would Russia do? No doubt sink any US vessel within the sphere of any of its assets around the world, including assets who may be 1000 feet underwater trailing a US carrier.

This is absolute insanity.

...very good point..... somewhere within the Russian Navy’s top brass someone is asking the same question...what the hell went wrong with the Moskva’s sinking and now this.....

BTW, the correct pronounciation is Mah-KAR-ov, not MACK-a-rov as is so often heard in the U.S., as in the famous 9 X 18 Mah-KAR-ov pistol round....

Hopefully, our military academies are paying attention to the fact that in war not only tanks, but ships of all nature, are now obsolete.

Russia’s Navy is the second largest in the world after the United States. Ukraine doesn’t even have a Navy.

It appears that Ukraine owns the Russian navy.

And I hope that our military defense planners are taking this all into account when it comes to protecting our carrier fleets!
