A Bold Compromise On Abortion
Townhall.com ^ | May 5, 2022 | Derek Hunter

The leak from the Supreme Court this week of a draft opinion has set every leftist pearl-clutcher on edge. If, through some sort of miracle, these soft-skulled non-birthing persons managed to impregnate a genuine birthing person, they might have to take some responsibility for their actions over the resulting child, and nothing scares the hell out of a leftist like the prospect of taking responsibility for their actions. Naturally, they freaked out. But I think there’s a middle ground to be had here, one where left and right, pro-life and pro-abortion, can come together to settle this debate once and for all. I humbly offer up a bold compromise on abortion.

Some people believe abortion is murder because it ends a life, others view it as compassionate because having a child can end your social life. Whether you fall on the side of science or the superficial party time, there has to be a middle ground, right? To those Democrats who insist abortion is a “deeply personal” or “really hard choice,” I’d be tempted to ask why – how can removing something you refer to as a parasite be difficult? Do you lose sleep over having your cat dewormed or a mole removed?

If it’s hard because you know you’re ending a human life, well, then we have to have a different discussion, don’t we?

I get how that’s a discussion you’re no more ready to have than the cable news “legal experts” are ready or capable of discussing the actual merits of what Justice Sam Alito wrote, preferring to appeal to emotion instead (which is a tell). Maybe someday, just not today.

With that in mind, allow me to put out a proposal that allows us to test just how popular and necessary abortion is and, if Democrats are correct and telling the American public the truth, would put to bed the issue once and for all.

First, institute a nationwide pause on abortions, all abortions, for a week so we can get everyone prepared for the test. Then, once everyone is ready, offer unfettered, taxpayer funded abortions up to the moment of birth, and maybe even for a few days after, for a small segment of women to see just how many really avail themselves of it.

This might be a tough sell for pro-lifers, but I really think if we do this for a month we can get some important, usable data to set abortion policy going forward.

For something like this to work it needs both sides to get something they want. For the pro-lifers, this will put a nationwide pause on abortion except for a small group of women. For the pro-abortion crowd, it would introduce taxpayer funded abortions for everyone, regardless of need. Also, and more importantly to the left, the test group will be one of the “communities” they cherish and separate from everyone else for favor.

For this test to find out just how important and necessary abortion is, and how crucial it is that taxpayers pick up the tab, I propose choosing a “marginalized,” and Democrats say, group. Perhaps the most marginalized. Make abortion legal and free for trans women only to see how many of these women avail themselves of the service and, if there is a big demand, expand from there accordingly.

I know what you’re thinking, “Hey, aren’t trans women really men?” First, you’re obviously a monster. Second, you’re a monster who doesn’t understand science.

We’ve just spent years being lectured on how “trans women ARE women” by the part which, just a month ago, had a Supreme Court nominee incapable for defining what a woman is. Miraculously, once this leak happened, they all suddenly remembered basic biology and knew exactly what one is. But they still insist trans women are women, so let us take them up on that offer.

If, in fact, trans women are women, the need for abortions would be just as real, correct? Make the offer. Democrats can’t really deny “perhaps the most marginalized community in the country” their fundamental rights, can they? Would they?

This is an opportunity for conservatives to expose the left as the hypocritical frauds they are. Democrats are running around screaming “Women’s rights” and insisting men should not have a say in anything related to those “rights.” How can anyone say what constitutes a woman? They couldn’t just a few hours ago, now they’re all gynecologists.

Confront them with their own insanity, offer to make abortion legal and “free” for trans women and see how they respond. They’ll either agree and look stupid to the rest of the country, or they’ll roll their eyes like an adult does when a teenager pretends to still believe in the Easter Bunny. Either way, we win. That’s a “compromise” I can get behind.

I don’t think there’s any way to get the genie back in the bottle. I am unalterably but personally opposed to abortion but it’s apparently a sacred rite as well as right for some people.

Here’s my proposed compromise. In exchange for unfettered, tax payer funded access to abortion I want universal constitutional carry, open and concealed and repeal of all semi-auto and magazine bans.

After all, the second amendment is actually in the constitution.

How does one compromise on killing a baby by allowing some babies to be killed?

Whatever we do, if we get our republic back, it should be the law of the land in all 50.

Legal status of the baby shouldn’t depend on whichever side of a state line the pregnant woman is standing on.

This isn’t a states right issue.

Either that life has legal status. Or it doesn’t.

I have an idea. Leave Roe v Wade in place but it is defunded by the government. Planned Parenthood will operate with private donations only which are not tax deductible.

If any laws are to be created, it should be it is illegal to have an abortion after 15 weeks. This will take care of the rape and other reasons for having the abortion in the first place.

As a tax payer, I should NOT have to pay for someone’s choice. If you want to have an abortion, when you die you will have to answer to God.

There is no "compromise" with babykillers. After Roe v. Wade is overturned, 65 million murdered infants demand that some people will have to be brought to justice and pay the price.

Does the court ruling not allow states to regulate abortion?

That is those states that desire to maintain “choice” can do so. Those that eschew abortion can do so and pass laws as many have outlawing abortion.

This will result in abortion mills in the City States where pregnant women from afar can kill their child. But, it follows the Constitution

First, the article was written as a joke. Derek Hunter suggested that the unfettered abortions be done in transgender women --- fake women who aren't pregnant anyway.

But if you want a real solution how about this (done at the state level since for now there's no constitutional amendment outlawing abortion):
1. Outlaw abortion.
2. If the parents choose to not raise the kid, then force the biological parents to pay child support to the foster parents or orphanage who raises the kid. This will be much like child support already implemented in all states and enforced with jail time (like most states do at least if one gets too far behind).

This will impact the people make the decision to make the baby to begin with. When those people go back to reaping the natural consequences of their decision, they and the people around them are less liable to repeat that decision. Thus less unplanned pregnancies for us to argue about what to do with.

That's not a compromise. It's simply showing the demonic insanity of the Demonicrats.

Again, there can be no compromise with babykillers.

Abortion always was and is a states right issue. Every state has to decide for itself. In Georgia we passed a heart beat bill.

Actually read the whole article. The compromise is funding abortion for trans women only.

I will go out on a non-biologist limb here and say there is ZERO chance a trans woman can get pregnant

It’s impossible to compromise on this issue. Killing a baby is murder.

But trying to legislate this in ANY way is pointless. First, hearts must be changed, so the first battle in this war is to focus on free speech and freedom to worship, both of which are targets of the left.

Whatever legislation is passed will not end abortion. People have to realize it’s wrong; that’s what will end it.

If you want an abortion, you pay for it. It is a set cost medical procedure that should be equal to actually having a baby in the hospital, therefore those who choose to kill an unborn baby do not reap any financial gain for termination - rather they give back to society as their socialist/commie psychology requires and kick in for the welfare of everyone.

This article and its suggestions are ludicrous.

“Some people believe abortion is murder because it ends a life”

DUH!

Abortion IS murder because it ends a life!

Abortion is no ACCIDENT!

Premeditated murder for hire.

All participating parties should be charged with murder or as accessories to murder.

The number of abortions would plummet. ALL the unwanted children would be adopted.

Women are responsible for their pregnancies, (women control when, where, and IF sex is to occur). Rape pregnancies are rare and that child has ZERO responsibility for the pregnancy, so why should they be murdered?

Tough/radical stance you say???

How about THE TRUTH?

“You can’t handle the truth”, as Colonel Jessup would say.

Abortion is EVIL, period! FULL STOP! It is MURDER, FULL STOP.

If you support abortion in ANY way, for ANY reason, YOU are an accessory to MURDER!

May God have mercy on your soul, but He WON’T!

(as always, don’t bother to flame me as I never read responses and more importantly, I really don’t care what you think)
