The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention used location data from tens of millions of Americans’ phones to track compliance with lockdown orders and vaccination efforts, according to newly revealed documents.
The CDC specifically monitored Americans’ visits to churches and schools, as well as “detailed counts of visits to participating pharmacies for vaccine monitoring,” internal documents from the federal agency obtained by Vice show.
The CDC also reportedly tracked peoples’ movement during curfews and visits between neighbors.
A controversial “data broker” called SafeGraph initially provided the data to the CDC for free during the outbreak of the pandemic, the documents show. Then in 2021, the CDC reportedly hatched a deal to pay the company $420,000 for continued access.
The CDC argued in the documents that data from SafeGraph — which is backed by tech billionaire Peter Thiel and ex-Saudi intelligence chief Turki bin Faisal Al Saud, among other investors — helped give the agency “deeper insights into the pandemic as it pertains to human behavior.”
SafeGraph and the CDC did not immediately respond to requests for comment on the documents, which Vice obtained through a Freedom of Information Act request.
Other health authorities including the Public Health Agency of Canada and the Illinois Department of Transportation have also been accused of tracking millions of people’s phones in recent years.
Data brokers like SafeGraph say that the information they sell represents the movements of groups of people rather than individual users. But critics have raised concerns about the data being less anonymous than data brokers claim.
In one example, a top Catholic priest from Wisconsin was forced to resign last year after a Catholic news site was able to de-anonymize data linked to his cellphone to reveal that he had allegedly used Grindr and visited gay bars. It was not clear

Shut your GPS off.
Only use it if you absolutely need it.
Shut it off again when you’re done.
Surprise, surprise, surprise...
Spying.
Shutting off GPS does not block cell phone tower pings, which is the data the CDC bought, just like True The Vote bought for their Ballot Harvesting study.
The only solution is to either power down your phone or leave it at home.
That doesn’t work.
They are getting cell tower data. This isn’t as bad as you think. The article wants patriots to be passed off so we act out.
This same exact data is taken at just about every concert. It’s a bunch of dots on a map. No identifying information.
Trust me on this. This is a nothing burger.
I have a startup business that specializes in geolocation tech
Oh, wow.
So when engaging in government proscribed activity, power down.
We lived without cell phones for a long time.
Maybe it’s time to return to CB.

Track away cdc. Put it in my permanent record too. Right next to us declining the vax+boosters. 😂🙌
🔬😨😷💉🐂💨💩💸
Fun fact: Yo-Yo was my CB handle given to me by my 'friends' in High School, circa 1977.
++++Shut your GPS off.
Only use it if you absolutely need it.+++++
Why? I’m tired of altering my life due to the illegal activities of the government. They need to change their habits...not us. If they refuse to do so then they need to fear us.

CDC doesn’t have the capability to do this. So they hire criminals to do this crap!

CDC Tracked Millions of Phones to See If Americans Followed COVID Lockdown Orders:
Newly released documents showed the CDC planned to use phone location data to monitor schools and churches, and wanted to use the data for many non-COVID-19 purposes too.

The Center for Disease Control has been spying on YOU!
Of course, we now have become so numb that we expect it from the CIA, or FBI, or IRS, or even the post office.
But the CDC looked at tracking info from MILLIONS of phones to monitor how well people obeyed their lockdown orders.
Here it is from VICE.
FROM VICE!
(What a time to be alive!)
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) bought access to location data harvested from tens of millions of phones in the United States to perform analysis of compliance with curfews, track patterns of people visiting K-12 schools, and specifically monitor the effectiveness of policy in the Navajo Nation, according to CDC documents obtained by Motherboard.
The documents also show that although the CDC used COVID-19 as a reason to buy access to the data more quickly, it intended to use it for more general CDC purposes.
Location data is information on a device’s location sourced from the phone, which can then show where a person lives, works, and where they went. The sort of data the CDC bought was aggregated—meaning it was designed to follow trends that emerge from the movements of groups of people—but researchers have repeatedly raised concerns with how location data can be demonized and used to track specific people.
This data that can almost certainly be used to track individuals was acquired during Covid, but the CDC has other reasons they want the info as well.
This is straight-up insane.
The CDC used the data for monitoring curfews, with the documents saying that SafeGraph’s data “has been critical for ongoing response efforts, such as hourly monitoring of activity in curfew zones or detailed counts of visits to participating pharmacies for vaccine monitoring.” The documents date from 2021.
Zach Edwards, a cybersecurity researcher who closely follows the data marketplace, told Motherboard in an online chat after reviewing the documents that “The CDC seems to have purposefully created an open-ended list of use cases, which included monitoring curfews, neighbor to neighbor visits, visits to churches, schools and pharmacies, and also a variety of analysis with this data specifically focused on ‘violence.’” (The document doesn’t stop at churches; it mentions “places of worship.”)
The CDC has the ability to track whether or not you are going to church!
In a world where the government – with an assist from many evangelicals these days – can shut down churches on a whim, it’s even more frightening to know that they can find out whether or not you are at your church in contradiction to their decree.
You may want to, before it’s too late. What is available is limited - Chy-na. A whip antenna has gone from around $50 to over $100 about two weeks ago.
Like moving freely about? Visiting friends and neighbors? Going to church?
I wonder if they were monitoring parks in California. They would have found one dot in many parks around the San Francisco Bay Area in March to May 2020. It probably wouldn't be too difficult to de-anonymize that one dot
> Like moving freely about? Visiting friends and neighbors? Going to church?
It depends. If you support the government narrative, and only visit friends, relatives, and churches that do, you’ll prolly be okay with Fedzilla.
I should also mention that newer vehicles appear to have abandoned stand-alone navigation for, you guessed it - your cell phone.
If you think not having a cell phone is bad, try driving with a map!
As you say, we used to do it and I’m doing it again.
“Shut your GPS off.”
They can still track you!
“Maybe it’s time to return to CB.”
Ever used CB radio? Not a reasonable alternative!
They are getting cell tower ping data. Turning off location services(GPS) won't stop that data collection. You either have to turn off the device or put it into airplane mode.
