US Air Force successfully tests 2,000-pound air-launched 'quicksink' bomb and sinks cargo ship The US has tested a new 'quicksink' bomb designed to destroy enemy warships from the sky.
The US Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) and Eglin Air Force Base's Integrated Test Team demonstrated what an attack on a warship in combat with the US could look like on April 28.
The US Air Force tested the munitions against a cargo ship in the Gulf of Mexico, breaking it in half and sinking it.
An F-15E Strike Eagle fighter launched the modified bomb, successfully striking the target by detonating a GPS-navigated bomb underneath the vessel.
The new technology provides the US Air Force with torpedo-like kill capabilities on US Air Force platforms.

Dropping a ton of metal on you will put a dent into the best made decks.
Just in case Biden needs to destroy supply chains he hasn't already broken.
That’s a zero survivors strike.
The same thing can be done with a stealthy drone packed with two pounds of plastique explosive. The era of naval surface combatants is over in this modern technological era. The silicon chip and its applications has changed everything. Many brave young men will die horrible deaths before the “battleship admirals” and “hidebound generals” fully understand the new reality.
It better work.
The military is dazzled by gadgets. But short of nuclear weapons, how many gadgets do we have and how long would they last? When they’re used up, are we prepared to fight without them? Could we fight a protracted conventional war? Shouldn’t we be prepared to do so?
Too bad they didn’t have it tested and deployed last year so Biden could have handed a few thousand of them over to the TALIBAN.

This is all fine and dandy but we’ve got a braindead, treasonous president being led around by the ring in his nose by a bunch of anti American commies. Frightening, isn’t it?
Yep just like a torpedo once you detonate under the hull you use the gas bubble to break a ships keel usually in half for anything under 50,000 tons dead weight. The video is 49 seconds long and that ship is fully render water by the end of it quick indeed no chance of survival everyone would be dead for sure. Short of a nuke a 2000lb through the hull is certain doom. Imagine what a 5,000lb bunker buster would do to a enemy aircraft carrier looking at you.China..
As if we don’t have enough shipping problems already...
I think China only has one, and I think I read they can’t launch aircraft from it successfully yet.
I’ll look for confirmation…
I guess Colonel Meeks didn't get the memo that free speech is the greatest threat to freedom around the world.
“Dropping a ton of metal on you will put a dent into the best made decks.”
Designed to NOT hit the ship.
But only on April 28th? Writers........
Yep. Unless you happen to be on deck, you are going down with that ship.
Not only do you get the hydraulic effect of the blast under the keel, but the warhead has twice as much explosive (or even more) as the standard torpedo used. I would guess it is quite effective.
This looks mostly like an air force vs navy funding PR stunt. It’s not as if the JDAM is new technology.
“The same thing can be done with a stealthy drone packed with two pounds of plastique explosive.”
Absolutely NOT!
This may be the end of surface navy ships!
“This looks mostly like an air force vs navy funding PR stunt. It’s not as if the JDAM is new technology.”
JDAM is a guidance system jointly developed by the Navy and AF to guide bombs to strike targets.
This system is designed NOT to make a direct hit on a target. NOT a PR stunt.
