We liked “Puffin Rock,” one of Netflix’s first original cartoon series. All the animals had darling little British (and colonial) accents.

The shows being axed at Netflix arrive amid consumers canceling their streaming services to save money amid soaring inflation as a big F U to Hollywood.

They ought to take the queer scenes out of EVERY ONE of their movies. Oh yea...every blonde female is with a Black guy. Try something else.

I would go back to watching if they would.

I keep reading in celebrity blinds alluding to that Netflix was just a medium to launder money for the billionaire set and wasn’t really meant to be anything other than a front to that end.

Seems they are getting the hammer, but hard. Dang, I was really looking forward to them producing more “authentic Viking” shows with Black Vikings.

Even my wife, who is Native American, couldn’t help but let out a “WTF!” When we saw that one. Spoon fed woke crapfest.

Netflix was a lot better when they showed actual movies instead of it being 95% of their original content. That’s why I really prefer Prime now. The original content on these streaming platforms always sucks.

It seems the life time for the next big thing is getting shorter and shorter. Netflix had a great idea with it’s DVD rentals and then it went streaming and became too successful as the owner of the content saw what they were doing and took back their product.

Some of the best content on Youtube is created by “amateurs” with low overhead.

Hollywood should not ask for whom the bells toll, because the toll is for them (if they don’t change their way).

Every business has a core competence. Rare exceptions excluded, if they veer from that core, they die.

Netflix’s core competence is “feature film library”. Customers expected them to have darned near every movie ever made, but for latest releases (ex.: “in theaters”) and special distributions (ex.: Criterion). That’s why customers signed up; viewers didn’t care who made it, just that it was available on demand for a flat monthly rate.

Movie licensing rights are a nightmare. Getting and keeping content in-service was surely hard expensive work.
Competing services were relatively easy to create. Anyone who could land licensing rights could produce a competing library - likely with different content per those rights.

Like several competitors (Amazon, Hulu, Apple, etc) they started producing Netflix Exclusive content, to attract viewers and keep them via content simply unavailable anywhere else. This sorta works up to a point. That point isn’t good enough to stay afloat.
Exclusive content has a distinct difference from regular independent-studio feel: movies produced by streaming services have a weirdly neutral or narrative feel unlike other major studios. Netflix Exclusives (and likewise the others) either want to not upset viewers (lest they just cancel, as many did over that borderline kiddie porn movie), or indulge a sociopolitical message few viewers will tolerate (ex.: the non-sequitur lesbian scenes in the Philip K Dick series). Well-funded and well-made, they still just feel...wrong.
Many viewers will pointedly avoid such exclusive content precisely because it’s exclusive.

By attempting to pivot to “exclusive” content, Netflix shifts their brand to content few actually seek, rather than the long-tail library everyone wants.
And customers decide to go elsewhere for the content Netflix doesn’t have, capital having been burned on movies few wanted.

Daughter let’s us tag onto her 2-screen subscription. I generally peruse the “Cooking Soon” listings and star the ones I want to be notified about. Generally, there had been a decent number of possibilities that I star.

Lately, there ain’t been Schiff. Just crap.

Time to destroy all woke companies. Then we have to start working to make them never rise in the first place.

Dino Daycare was to feature a 6-year-old boy who helps out at a nursery for baby dinosaurs in a world where dinosaurs never went extinct.

This actually sounds cute. There's a lot of crap on there they could have stopped production on instead of this one.

Many of those consumers are canceling because they realize Netflix is evil.

I rarely find movies by browsing on one of the streaming sites. I will identify films I want to see and then figure out where I can watch them. I almost never go in cold. And because I’ve done some minimal due diligence, I’m pretty pleased with most of the films I watch. Good stuff is out there. Finding it without too much effort is the trick.

I read reviews. I take a glance at the myriad lists that everyone in the business puts out regularly. I take a look at films that are nominated for major awards. I spend way too much time online, mostly on conservative websites, and many of them review films, or post articles arguing about them. That’s a lead generation service.

I pay attention to the film critics; I don’t follow any of them blindly, but if a critic that I trust recommends a film, I will read a few more reviews and watch the trailer.

There are a very few actors and directors that I like enough to at least check out anything with which they’re connected; again, that doesn’t mean I’ll watch a given film, but I will at least read a few reviews and watch the trailer.

The film-oriented websites all publish regular lists of “Most Anticipated Films of XXXX.” Or the Top 10/Top 25/Top 50 type lists. These are worth a glance. It doesn’t take long to do a quick scan. Many critics publish “Most Underrated” lists, and these are often good for picking up excellent films that didn’t get much hype.

I should emphasize that I don’t spend a lot of time with this. It only takes a few minutes to glance down the list for Sundance, TIFF, Telluride, Cannes, Venice, etc. — whatever is coming up — and see what is getting some buzz. I will end up watching very few of these films, but I’m at least aware that they’re out there. A few will catch my eye, and I’ll read a couple of reviews and watch the trailer.

I’d be willing to bet that I actually spend a lot less time doing this than most people spend browsing the menus being served up on Netflix, Amazon, AppleTV+ and the other streaming sites. It’s just a matter of making it a habit. It becomes a reflex, and I start picking up leads as a matter of routine situational awareness.

I always encourage freepers to make recommendations. Most of us stumble across good movies from time to time. And there are lots of movie threads on FR. Most of them devolve into griping sessions. That’s fine in its place, but let’s pass along the good word on stuff we like as well. Tastes vary; different strokes for different folks. But we’re all looking for solid, non-woke content. When you find some, don’t keep it a secret. Please.

I’m not wedded to any streamer. If it’s a movie I want to see, I can wait until its a cheap rental, usually on multiple platforms. If it’s a movie I really, really want to see, I’ll pay the premium price for a recent release. I’m old enough to remember paying for a ticket in the theater. Same thing. I’m willing to pay for a few tickets here and there to break out of streamers’ silos.
