“Those Cuban-CIA men (Bay of Pigs vets) were as tough, dedicated and impetuous a group of soldiers as I’ve ever had the honor of commanding,” wrote legendary anti-communist mercenary “Mad Mike” Hoare, commander of the “Wild Geese,” in his book Congo Mercenary.
''This is the history of a failure,'' said the oddly frank opening lines of Che Guevara’s Congo Dairies.
“I stood above Che Guevara, my boots near his head, just as Che had once stood over my dear friend and fellow 2506 Brigade member, Nestor Pino. ‘We're going to kill you all," Che said to Pino.’ Now, the situation was reversed. Che Guevara lay at my feet. He looked like a piece of trash. I said, "Che Guevara, I want to talk to you,” said former President of the Bay of Pigs Veterans Association Felix Rodriguez, recalling Che Guevara’s capture in Bolivia, where he played a key role.
“Senator (John Kerry), your committee’s slander against me was in every g*dd*mned newspaper after your committee’s last closed hearing! Saying I solicited drug money for the Nicaraguan Contras. THAT, Senator Kerry, is a D*MNED LIE!...and it's difficult for me to answer questions from a man (you, the chairman of the committee) I do not RESPECT!” testified Rodriguez for Senate Foreign Relations Subcommittee on Terrorism, Narcotics, and International Operations hearings chaired by Senator John Kerry in 1986 which, evolved into the Iran-Contra hearings.
After being ransomed back by the guilt-stricken JFK after his Bay of Pigs betrayal, many of these Cuban freedom-fighters were itching to get back into the fight (but with sufficient ammo and air cover this time). The CIA obliged and sent a group of them with ex-marine Rip Robertson to the Congo in ‘64 where Castro (with tongue tucked deeply in his cheek) had sent Che Guevara to foment a “war of liberation,” training and commanding the alternately Chinese-and Soviet-backed “Simbas” of Laurent Kabila, who were murdering, raping and munching (many were cannibals) their way through the defenseless Europeans still left in the recently abandoned Belgian colony.
Together Mad Mike, Rip and the Cubans made short work of Che and Kabila’s Simbas. Guevara himself barely escaped by hightailing it with his tail tucked firmly between his legs across Lake Tanganyika into Tanzania, with the Cuba-CIA men in hot pursuit.
Too bad Hollywood never picked up on this exploit for one of their many glorifications of Che--worse still that Monty Python’s Flying Circus didn’t pick it up. I’ll even start the script for them: “In 1965, while planning a military campaign in the Congo against crack mercenaries commanded by a professional soldier who helped defeat Rommel in North Africa, (Michael Hoare) Che Guevara confidently allied himself with “soldiers” who used chicken feathers for helmets and stood in the open waving at attacking aircraft because a muganga (witch doctor) had assured them that the magic water he sprinkled over them would make .50 caliber bullets bounce harmlessly off their bodies. Six months later, Che fled Africa, narrowly escaping with his life and with his tail tucked tightly between his legs.”
Two years later, during his Bolivian “guerrilla” campaign, Che split his forces, whereupon they got hopelessly lost and bumbled around, half-starved, half-clothed and half-shod, without any contact with each other for six months before being wiped out. They didn’t even have World War II vintage walkie-talkies to communicate and seemed incapable of applying a compass reading to a map. They spent much of the time walking in circles and were usually within a mile of each other. During this blundering, they often engaged in ferocious firefights against each other.
“You hate to laugh at anything associated with Che, who murdered so many,” says Rodriguez, the Cuban- American CIA officer who played a key role in tracking Guevara down in Bolivia. “But when it comes to Che as ‘guerrilla,’ you simply can’t help but guffaw.”
And wouldn’t you know it? Senator John Kerry, who supposedly patterned himself on JFK, tried desperately to get the U.S. government to betray a Latin-American freedom-fight against Soviet proxies. At least he was aware of JFK’s true legacy.
John Kerry landed in Congress and immediately rolled up his sleeves and spat on his hands. The Nicaraguan people must end up like the Cuban and Vietnamese! Toward this end Kerry was tireless.
The most vital stanza of Daniel Ortega's Sandinista anthem (Latin American leftists catch an extra breath and sing it with all the fervor we use for 'Ban-ner ..ye-et WA-A-VE!') bashes the U.S. as "El E-NE-MIGO de la HU-MA-NI -DAD!) (the enemy of humanity!) The line was probably lifted from a Che Guevara speech. Naturally the authors of such an anthem stole the heart of many Democrats, including the Majority leader, future Speaker of the House, future Secretary of State and current “Special Presidential Envoy for Climate." Soon he was chairing "The Senate Subcommittee on Narcotics, Terrorism and International Operations" quickly dubbed "The Kerry Committee" by his media cronies and soulmates. Soon it was boasting, "77 instances where the Reagan Administration misled Congress about its policies in Central America!" (I hold here in my hands!—not that Kerry accusations against Republicans had anything in common with Sen. Joe McCarthy’s against Democrats, which were mostly true.)
Lest we forget, it was here that the famous "Iran-Contra investigation" actually started. Soon the lurid accusations spawned an "Iran-Contra Committee "of its own and Kerry pressed ahead with his.
The Democratic crusade to throttle the Nicaraguan freedom fight was now under full steam. One Cuba wasn't enough for liberal Democrats. They were The Best and Brightest of a new generation. They'd picked up the torch from Camelot. The honor demanded that they pledge themselves to creating another tropical Gulag and slaughterhouse on our doorstep. If Latin freedom fighters battled desperately in the field against a Soviet-supplied enemy -- if these freedom-fighters had their backs against the wall -- if any looked northward through sweat-stung eyes and blood-drenched bandages for an ally -- if hundreds were dying in freedom's cause with gritted teeth in a desperate and uneven struggle against a Soviet-backed enemy -- then these freedom-fighters MUST be stabbed in the back! The legacy of Camelot DEMANDED it!
Toward that noble goal John Kerry committed himself body and soul. Soon his Committee was leaking lurid details of a nefarious CIA/Contra drug smuggling plot with a Cuban-American named Felix Rodriguez as the bagman and Vice President George Bush as a silent partner. The commie-crackpot Christic Institute and Institute For Policy Studies served as the Kerry Committee's advisors. The latter had arranged his earlier Nicaragua fan trip, where he hailed Soviet-Cuban satrap Daniel Ortega as a combination of George Washington/Davy Crockett.
The Kerry Committee finally subpoenaed Rodriguez himself. Miami area lawyers, knowing Rodriguez's honorable reputation, tripped over themselves clamoring to represent him pro-bono during the Kerry Committee hearings. "I don't want any lawyers!" Felix responded. "If I need a lawyer to help me explain why I've been defending this country for the past 27 years, then I'm in the wrong country! I want my testimony in front of the American people!"
More alarmingly (to Democrats), Rodriguez refused what weasel types call "immunity."
Rodriguez didn't miss a beat -- naming dates and witnesses, citing documents -- he proceeded to demolish every accusation the Kerry Committee made against him.
"I have nothing to hide," Rodriguez said repeatedly. "I'm not ashamed of anything I've done. I've battled communism since I was 17. I help the Contras, the Salvadoran government. I do so as a volunteer, legally and openly. And if you're sincere, senator," he finished up. "You'll put out a statement to the press about what I said here today. I insist that the American people know about my testimony!"
No such statement was ever issued from Kerry's Committee. So two months later, Rodriguez called a press conference in Miami to tell his side.
A full year after leaking the slanders against Rodriguez and after the treacherous, lying swine who made them failed three polygraph tests, The Kerry Committee finally saw fit to allow Rodriguez'a year-long request for an open hearing. They scheduled him as the fifth witness at 5 in the afternoon when the Senate chamber was devoid of reporters and TV cameras. In the near-empty room, Kerry finally mumbled a half-hearted apology.
This excerpt is good:

What have the Cubans done since the Bay of Pigs?
IMO the greatest stain on JFK was his handling of the Bay of Pigs. Other than that he is probably—cancel—definitely the best Democratic president in my life. 100x better than the figure head Alzheimer’s riddled old man we have now.
Although to be fair all I remember is what I’ve read of him as I was a toddler when he was shot.
On Che..never did understand why those indoctrinated children of yuppies in the early 2000s all wore his image. To be honest I don’t think they did either.
Typical anti-American John Kerry:

That’s a good meme in your link. Thanks.
Oops...
Saw the headline and thought it was a story about a democrat pool party...
You missed Obama’s election headquarters picture of Che Guevara.
Do you have/know a link showing Che executing young women? It will
They fought against the Castro-Soviet backed regime in Nicaragua and against communists in an Salvador, for starters, if you bother to read the article.
And the Nicaraguan Sandinista, Daniel Ortega, was allied at the time with Libya’s Qadaffi and with Columbian terrorist group FARC, giving them control of at least 75 percent of the world’s cocaine.
bump
Humberto Fontova deserves a long life and and a large supply of pens. His writings skewer the left’s adventures in the Americas that lie below the Rio Grande makes fine reading.
“ definitely the best Democratic president in my life. 100x better than the figure head Alzheimer’s riddled old man we have now.”
Exactly what did he do to make him what you describe above?
I was 8 years old when he was shot.
I believe he was the first media produced politician. He was handsome, tall and had a way with the ladies that made the male media jealous. I remember the adults talking about Nixon sweating on the TV debate while Kennedy looked cool as a cucumber. TV engineered “magic” that people had never witnessed before. Color TV was brand new as were televised political debates.
All phony, engineered images accompanied by highly scripted public relations ploys. And please don’t forget the massive voter fraud associated with his election, I actually witnessed as a grandson of a dimocRAT PCO.
After writing this, I think I will concede to your point. JFK was the best dimocRAT president since 1960, he was only in office a little over 1000 days, not long enough to screw much up, although as this article illustrates, he was on his way to being a typical dimocRAT president.
I’d say the greatest stain on JFK was stealing the Presidency, period. A President Nixon (1961-69) would’ve overthrown Castro and restored freedom to Cuba, and ditto that for Viet Nam. By the time he got in 8 years later, it was largely too late to repair the damage JFK/LBJ’s bungling incompetence had caused.
“half hearted?” What could we expect from a douchebag the likes of John ‘Effin, Kerry?
I submit that G W Bush was not the best President but the fact that he kept Al Gore and J ‘Effin Kerry out of the white hut is to his credit.
Amazing Che faced death so poorly. Latin men generally know that one is supposed to play the final scene as well as one can. Machismo is often nothing but the sin of pride but it does imbue even poor men who have led vicious lives with the strength to face the final curtain with some dignity and courage. How disappointing, even villains should go out with courage, it does not redeem a bad life but it does redeem the last act. Unfortunately, Guevara was a weasel in his last minutes. The man who sent hundreds to their deaths faced death as a coward.
What have they done to overthrow their government since then?
Subversion in the Senate: Kerry's Communist Constituency
The allegations which triggered the Kerry investigation and Christic lawsuit had initially been collected by the ICDP and Christic from several key witnesses. The first was Jack Terrell, a mercenary who had volunteered to aid the Contras in 1984 and was suspected by US intelligence of being a Nicaraguan agent.28 Terrell directed Kerry's staff to another key witness, Steven Carr, an imprisoned mercenary who had been discharged from the Navy for dealing drugs before briefly joining the Contras, and had initially reported his allegations of Contra drug dealing to California State Assemblyman Tom Hayden, husband of Jane Fonda, then a supporter of pro-Sandinista groups.29 Carr helped elicit the cooperation of another key witness, his former associate Jesus Garcia, then imprisoned for illegal firearm trafficking.30 Terrell, Carr, and Kerry's staff also assisted a lawsuit filed by the Christic Institute against allegedly CIA-linked individuals on behalf of Tony Avirgan, an ABC cameraman, and his wife Martha Honey, a Canadian Broadcast Corporation/London Sunday Times journalist.31 Avirgan had been injured in a bomb blast while on assignment from ABC in Costa Rica to cover a May 1984 press conference where Contra faction leader Edén Pastora was planning to denounce other factions of the Contras and announce the formation of his own Contra faction. Pastora a former Sandinista, had refused to work under the Contra groups backed by the CIA and as a result had been cut off by the CIA earlier in 1984. Subsequently for funding he had turned to George Morales32, a drug dealer linked to the Medellin Cartel and to Cuba.33 Pastora's main rival within the Contras was CIA asset John Hull, a prime target of Kerry's investigation and of the Christic lawsuit, which attempted to link him to the Medellin Cartel's Pablo Escobar and Jorge Ochoa. Kerry built his case against Hull on the testimony of Terrell, Carr, Garcia, and five other key witnesses with criminal backgrounds and clear conflicts of interest: Pastora's cocaine supplier Morales; Morales' pilot Gary Betzer; Floyd Carlton, a pilot who smuggled drugs for Manuel Noriega, who had recently fallen out with the Medellin Cartel and been targeted for assassination by Escobar; Jose Blandon, who was also linked to Noriega as well as to the Medellin Cartel's main rival in the cocaine trade, the Cali Cartel, which was then waging a vendetta against Escobar; and Werner Lotz, a convicted drug dealer who had been the personal pilot of Medellin Cartel cofounder Robert Vesco.
So Kerry's case was questionable. That said, there were also some Brigade 2506 veterans who became loose cannons after CIA cut off their official support and got involved in some shady stuff linked to the above cast of characters, notably one Jose Egozi Behar, who became a close associate of the Guadalajara Cartel, a Mexican ally of the Colombian cartels which was the target of a major DEA investigation in the 1970s, which unlike Kerry's committee did result in arrests and convictions. I suspect Kerry's sources had a vague suspicion they could use this type of thing to pin something on the Contras and they put him on a fishing expedition hoping to find something solid. Meanwhile their ally Castro was supporting the Medellin Cartel himself. As I also note in the link above, In the late 1970s and 1980s as the Medellin Cartel was gaining control of the growing cocaine traffic, Castro allowed cartel cofounders Robert Vesco and Carlos Lehder-Rivas to use Cuban waters and airspace for drug smuggling. Meanwhile in the late 1970s smugglers in Central America who would later work for the Medellin Cartel smuggled weapons to the Cuban-backed Sandinistas, and used the opportunity to set up drug-smuggling channels in Nicaragua and the surrounding region. Similarly, on the BCCI end of Kerry's investigation, one of the BCCI-linked drug dealers Kerry investigated, Monzer Al-Kassar, had links to Soviet intelligence and Middle Eastern terrorist groups.
