On January 6, 2021, in the chamber of the U.S. House of Representatives, Vice President Mike Pence, in his role as presiding officer of a joint session, counted the electoral college votes for President, just as his predecessors had done for every presidential election since the founding of the republic. Sounds routine enough, doesn’t it?
Not quite.
For that act, Mike Pence became the most hated man in America among Trump supporters. Millions of Americans were left fuming at Pence for squandering the golden opportunity to flip what they were certain was a Democrat-rigged election.
Trump supporters with a grain of sense realized Pence couldn’t simply refuse to count electoral votes they didn’t like. Instead, the plan was for Pence to separate out the electoral votes of the states where there was known to be a competing set of votes in play and sending all the electoral votes back to those states of origin for “reconsideration.” Surely enough of these states would then return “reconsidered” votes to flip the election for Trump. President Trump himself was solidly behind this strategy.
The problem was, Pence was opposed to it and acted accordingly.
Some of the subsequent responses to Pence’s action, particularly in the media, have proceeded to degenerate into sheer Democrat behavior. (I can’t think of a more apt way to describe them.)

If our presidents continue to be selected and not elected, he may be. Ugh.
Absolutely right. If the COVID fiasco of 2020 taught me anything, it’s that even Freepers can be irrational and post nonsense without even thinking about the implications of what they are saying.
At the very least Pence should have just refused himself from that role and made them appoint someone else to do it. His doing it legitimized the fraud.
Why should Pence move on only allegations and claims of fraud? No state legislature had claimed their votes were invalid. No court had ruled on evidence of fraud. Without any solid evidence Pence had no choice but to accept the votes as submitted.

Not all, but there exists a sizeable irrational contingent.
It would not allow Pence alone to “pick” the President. Don’t be hyperbolic.
The responsibility for the 2020 election fiasco lies squarely with the governors and legislatures of those states that made a joke of their elections.
I wouldn’t , he’s too sheepish. He did his job that day though. The time to push the fraud issue was the months leading up to 1/6. It’s a shame it took two years to produce videos of ballot drop box fraud.
Even those with a strong moral compass often take on tasks that they are not up to performing.
Pence was out of his league as VP and followed his historical role rather than his overwhelmingly obvious role of ensuring the proper electoral votes were counted.
He simply wasn’t cut for the job of VP.
Thank God we’ll never see him as POTUS.
I have to agree, it is a disgrace to give this dishonest claptrap bandwidth.
Really? Say it's January 6, 2025 and Trump has won the election with 295 electoral votes. But the Democrat legislators of Texas have sent a separate slate of electors claiming that voter suppression was the reason for the Republican win. According to many around here the vice president has the ability to select from disputed slates of electors so Harris chooses to could the Democrat slate and the state goes to Biden. Democrats win. Is that really the kind of power you want to give the VP?
“Anyone who believes Biden was the choice of the majority electorate is an idiot.”
Reminds me of a line by an observer during the O J trial. He said the trial divided America into two groups — those who believed that O J was guilty and idiots.
In the 1876 election, the Democrats didn’t hesitate to assign their own electors.
“It’s not up to the VP or anyone else in Congress to “fix” the fraud”
My point wasn’t that pence would fix it but that he should not have supported it by performing what is said to be a ceremonial role. If he didn’t perform the role someone else would have. His taking part in the process gave cover to the deep state and basically cut the legs out from Trump.
This person could not even use his real name, and it’s the only submission he has contributed to American Thinker.
See Post #68. On January 6th, Pence fulfilled his duties to a T.
Avoiding being an accomplice in the greatest crime in American history.
I’m astonished Lifson published it.
Here’s some more. Pence wasn’t a paper pushing middle manager. The Constitution put him in that role to add a check & balance. The loser ignored rampant fraud because he was getting his, because he was a coward or because he was playing the deep state game. If he is a godly man I am the queen of Sheeba.
All who wear the pretense of godliness are not godly, many are the devil using the scripture for their purpose.
Judge the man by the results of his actions. He was a backbiter & obstructionist as VP and he abandoned Americans by not sending back to the State legislators results where fraud was questioned. He will go down in history as a Judas.
