On Saturday, Los Angeles Times journalist Jean Guerrero openly complained about “English-language supremacy” in the United States during an appearance on a National Public Radio (NPR) podcast.
Fox News reports that, while on the NPR podcast “Consider This,” Guerrero addressed the issue of some foreigners or minorities having their names mispronounced, which she claimed “can signal criticism or exclusion.” She then claimed that her Puerto Rican mother faced “English-language supremacy” while living in the territory.

English language supremacy LOL, LOL, LOL, I have had to learn Spanish to survive in CA. OMG these people are INSANE!!{
One thing is for sure.
America needs a completel moratorium on ALL immigration until the day when there are no more foreign language TV and radio stations in the US.
The troublemakers should be taken to the public square and beaten with sticks. I’ve had it with them.
Well gee, let’s make everything evil by attaching the word “Supremacy” to it!
I notice that she pissed and moaned about “English-Language “Supremacy” while speaking English!
My guess would be yes.
We have bent over backward to be nice and accommodating. A lot of us are sick of it.
I wonder if this non binary, Guerrero person sounds like she speaks AZTEC. The Aztecs tried for 300 years to get everyone in Mexico to speak their language. They did pretty good.
There are lots of countries where the primary language isn’t English.
Jean should go live in one of those countries.
She’ll be happier and we’ll be happier. Problem solved.
I’m guessing most residents of Mexico would pronounce my Polish last name incorrectly on the first try. If you want your name pronounced right maybe you shouldn’t invade a foreign country.
Poor baby.
If you want to see the mess that a dual language country can bring, but look to Canada. Most gov’t documents have to be “double-printed” to also include French. Time for the US to name the official language as English.
Has she ever been to France??
‘Guerrero addressed the issue of some foreigners or minorities having their names mispronounced, which she claimed “can signal criticism or exclusion.”’
Smarter immigrants than Guerrero came up with a solution to this problem: they simply changed their names to a form that English speakers could easily pronounce, rather than expecting English speakers to magically know how to pronounce every name in every language on the planet.
Apparently so. With lots of “likes” and”you knows” peppering her spiel.
She sounds like a self-absorbed Latin supremacist, full of hate. Another millennial who loves to talk about herself.
We should recall one of the items on the “contract with America” list was making English the official language. Newt and the rest of them chickened out and the chance was lost forever.
Dipsh*t “journalist”...English is the official language of California (Cal. Constitution, Art. III, Sec. 6)
She’s a woman-— Naturally, she has a patent on complaining.
Dang it - I’ve misplaced my tiny violin again!
