Ukraine war: Russia accuses UK of provoking attacks on its territory

The Russian government has accused the UK of "provoking" Ukraine into attacking Russian territory.

Russia's defence ministry said it was ready to hit "decision-making centres" in Kyiv should such attacks occur.

The presence of Western advisers at such centres might not affect its decision to retaliate, it added.

It comes after a UK defence minister said it was "not necessarily a problem" for Ukraine to use UK-supplied arms against military targets in Russia.

James Heappey said Ukrainian military strikes to disrupt supply lines were a "legitimate" part of war, and described Russian claims of Nato being in conflict with Russia as "nonsense".

Russia has claimed Ukrainian forces have attacked targets within its territory, including an oil depot in Belgorod, but Ukraine has not confirmed any strikes.

I don’t see any other country helping Russia. Not even their erstwhile and putative ‘allies’ in Belarus.

“Russia can’t even manage a war against Ukraine let alone take on all of NATO.”

You are correct, which is why the Russians must provoke a wider war. If the Russians, in their “proportionate” response, raise the stakes to a nuclear free-for-all one of two things (in the Russian mindset) will result. One, the West will back off and Russia will eventually kill enough Ukrainians that they get the territory that they want*. Two, a really nasty response by the West, raising their raise, will allow Putin to back down and save face. He’ll portray himself as the selfless hero who saved the world from a nuclear holocaust.

* The Russians are betting the farm on the first option. They will blame the use of nuclear weapons on the West. Then they expect to use their mineral and oil wealth to create their own sphere of influence. They will probably create a new Iron Curtain as nobody will want to stay in a perpetually poor country. Gradually, more and more western countries will deal with them because the prices will be irresistible.

Russia’s getting awfully whiney the last couple of weeks. Not a sign of a winner.

“Vlad is demonstrating a huge amount of reserve.”

He’ll be even more reserved once he’s dead.

That’s what I’ve been trying to say and what I’d like to avoid, but it seems people want to push it.

Persuasion pro-tip: When your argument starts out “It’s pretty obvious...” it is almost always not, but almost always is an expression of one’s own beliefs attributed to another through mind reading, which is impossible.

“If the Russians...raise the stakes to a nuclear free-for-all”

Then Russia will have committed suicide.

Russia doesn’t need forces.

“Russia had approximately 1.35 million active military personnel as of 2022, compared to 500 thousand in Ukraine. The number of aircraft at the disposal of the Russian army was close to 4.2 thousand, while Ukrainian armed forces possessed almost 320 aircraft“

_____________

I wouldn’t put it past them. They think we’re weak enough to not retaliate. They’re right, but others would for us. That doesn’t help us though.

Screw the UK, MI6, MI5, Globo Boris, the UK Muzzy Grooming Street Gangs and Christopher Steele.

Anybody, (including Russia), can do anything they want to 'em, all they gotta do is apply sufficient force.

“Russia doesn’t require any military help”

Yet the fact before us is they do. Elsewise the Russian flag would fly triumphant over all of Ukraine.

Then the Russians aren’t much on history, are they? Every idiot before them that thought the same thing is now dead.

The Soviets were financing (partly), arming and training the IRA, using Libya as their cutout and training ground. Weapons were mostly from the US because it was easier. They also got the IRA to attack the BAOR (British Army of the Rhine, the British NATO component), in Germany.

So there is good reason for the British to be a bit sour vs the Russians.

Going to see more of this down the track. The ‘enemy of my enemy’. Britain should just mind its own business. The sun has set on the British empire. It’s going to have a very large restless mad mo population by 2050. Pew suggest around 14 million by then whitey aging and dying off.
