Sweden and Finland agree to both apply for NATO membership in May in defiance of Russian threats
Daily Mail ^ | 4.25.2022 | David Averre

Two newspapers - one Swedish, the other Finnish - have reported the governments of Sweden and Finland have agreed to submit NATO applications at the same time and that it will happen in the middle of next month.

Finnish newspaper Iltalehti said that the Swedish government has expressed a wish to Finland that they apply together in the week starting May 22 and Swedish government sources confirmed the information to Sweden's Expressen tabloid.

Russia's invasion of Ukraine has led to growing support in Sweden and Finland, a Russian neighbour, for joining NATO.

Though not members, both Nordic countries closely co-operate with NATO, allowing, among other things, the alliance's troops to carry out exercises on their soil.

Helsinki and Stockholm have also substantially intensified their bilateral defence co-operation in the past years, and there was talk earlier this month that the Nordic territories could both seek to join NATO in the coming months amid Russian aggression.

Sweden signalled its intention to apply for NATO membership on April 13, in a move which infuriated Moscow lawmakers.

Sources told Sweden's SVD newspaper about the move on the same day that fellow neutral neighbour Finland started its debate on joining NATO after days of speculation it would do so.

I agree. It’s going to be difficult to get the Russians to act nice to each other let alone everyone else. But maybe the leader who replaces Putin after the assassination will work towards making Russia a nice place for the average Russian.

Do that and the Russians will stop thinking about what they can steal from everyone else.

Russian culture isn't a populist democracy, republic or representative government.

They are used to the strong man protecting the Rodina.

The savage that replaces Putin would have to be cunning enough or sociopathic enough to survive his murderous predecessor and all the killing Putin did to eliminate any threat or "up and comer".

Russia IS NOT LIKE the United States and treat or expect it's leaders to suck up and "grab a beer" with the masses... The Russian people expect a badass that will put fear in any country that threatens the Rodina.

This is going to end badly, for all of us.

Ukraine will fall-everything east of the Dnipro river, Transnistria, Moldova and part of Romania are next.

Then Poland will have to either play nice or if they ask for nukes get invaded. The "tell" will be if we put nukes east of Warsaw.... threatening Russia or west of Warsaw, giving Putin a buffer zone. If we put nuclear weapons or missiles capable of carrying them (cruise missiles) , then buy iodine, ammo, food and your family and friends need to make a plan.

Putin is going all in and will invade Poland, the Baltics... and NATO/US will destroy his army. He will have no option but to go nuclear on the tactical side and then we will have to depend on our AMAZING PRESIDENT and his leadership ability in crisis, as well as the geniuses at Dept of State and DOD to walk this back..... or we go to war.

China has two options.. take eastern Russia or Taiwan.

Anyone that tells you that Putin is faking nuclear war or "would never think of it" is so pathetically naive that they should be put in front of a history and geography books for a couple of years.

“NATO And America have been talking and making threats to move tactical weapons up against Russia all over Europe.”

Names and dates, Scooter. Names and dates.

“Putin has mishandled his relations to all his neighbors.”

Because for Putin the whole strongman thing is how he rolls. Why negotiate with Ukraine for access to Crimea when you can just invade and take it? Why be civil towards Finland when you can bully and intimidate them?

And next up is to start threatening Moldova for feeling apprehensive after Putin and Lukashenko have both leaked their opinions that Moldova is the next country to be invaded after Ukraine.

Finland and Sweden were seriously contemplating NATO membership after the invasion of Ukraine and a series of threats from Moscow. But then Moscow flew nukes into Swedish airspace and sealed the deal.

Russia thought they’d scare the Swedes and Finns into complying with Russian demands when what they really did was to harden the Swedes and Finns against Russia. Russia managed to get both countries to join NATO...a feat that NATO was never going to accomplish on its own merits.

And no doubt Putin and his minions still think the way to win hearts and minds is to rape, pillage, and plunder like the Mongol savages from which they descended.

Face it, if Putin was a better leader, a better statesman, a better diplomat, Russia would be in NATO RIGHT NOW.

Good God, you don't even know how stupid that statement is. LOL!

Trying to wrap my brain around that one and it’s gotten knotted into a pretzel.

Yeah. And in so doing he misses out on all the benefits. The problem with the whole strongman routine is it’s not conducive to trade. And let’s face it in the modern world that the goal. Have good relations with a country so you have more people to sell product to. You want to be a major world player in the post 1950s world you need a big GDP, if you want a big GDP you need trading partners.

Nope. It’s a FACT:
https://www.theguardian.com/world/2021/nov/04/ex-nato-head-says-putin-wanted-to-join-alliance-early-on-in-his-rule

“Putin said: ‘When are you going to invite us to join Nato?’ And [Robertson] said: ‘Well, we don’t invite people to join Nato, they apply to join Nato.’ And he said: ‘Well, we’re not standing in line with a lot of countries that don’t matter.’”

If he was a good leader, statesman and diplomat Russia would have joined NATO. But he was childish and wanted NATO to treat him like he was special.

A good leader could have handled that. A good statesmen would have understood it. A good diplomat would have followed the process.

And again we see that you don’t have the facts. And you don’t have the logic.

So we both know you’re wrong.

Thanks. Those will go well with my new flashlights. One has a solar panel attached. The other has a windmill attached.

I hope the solar panel one works, because I have to run rather fast for the windmill flashlight to work.

No. You’re the one not bringing ANY facts at all. Just insults.

If you have ONE SINGLE FACT bring it. If your next post lacks facts we ALL know you don’t actually have any.

Sweden and Finland want to join a defence alliance.

Why would Russia need to protect itself from a alliance set up to defend smaller countries from Russia?

Pooptin has united Ukrainians, he united NATO and now his invasion is prompting more countries to join NATO

Exactly. Even if he declared recognition of their independence, no one would have bothered.

And by 2023 Zelensky would have been voted out

No. You’re the one not bringing ANY facts at all.

You mean like the fact that Russia does not trust NATO or the USA? Or the fact that Russia shouldn't trust NATO or the USA? I didn't think a source would be needed. But I'll go ahead and email Vlad and ask. Or better yet, I'll see if it is in the guardian. LOL yet again, sometimes I kill myself.
